Heater Hose
In the picture, is part number 13 the one that goes over the engine fan and down to the heat exchanger on the passenger side?
I ordered a replacement, and it looks too short. Have I started the weekend early???? TIA, Magilla '83 SC |

If you have air conditioning then #19 is the one you need. It is coupled to #20 by #18 under the compressor bracket.

Yes, that's the one. In reality, it is longer than it looks in the picture. Mine is old but not torn. In fact I have two serviceable ones, neither of which will ever be re-used (I am switching to the early design which eliminates just about everything in the diagram). So, you're welcome to it, in a pinch, but you're better off with a new length of hose. Heck, any good VW shop would have this for you. it's not "Special."

Thanks for the prompt answers! I actually purchased a new one (part number 19) from Pelican, and it just seems too short to reach. I will have to run out and look later, but the piece I have is only about 32" long.
I am sure it is OK, I was just nervous when I unwrapped it. The one that's on there isn't ripped, but there is a spot where the A/C bracket has rubbed it and crushed/ mangled it. I figured that I would just replace it while I am removing the bracket and the compressor. I probably should have gotten the other hose and replaced it with the non-A/C setup, but I figured I would leave it stock, should I ever reinstall the A/C (for the next owner). I don't use the heat much anyway.... Thanks! |
