Temp gauge markings?
Got together with a friend this weekend at a local drive-up car show. We both have '83 911 SC's -- mine is a coupe and his is a Targa. We noticed that mine has actual numbers on the temp gauge markings (120, 180, 210, 250, 300) whereas his just has ticks with no numbers.
We walked around and looked at other cars. Sure enough mine was the odd one in the lot. AFAIK all are original VDO gauges that are unmolested. Anyone have any ideas what this means? Does it perhaps signify a particular set of options when the car was purchased? Just curious. :) |
someone has upgraded the gauge to the numbers type.

Put your head over to the right of the steering wheel. Look at the edge of the gauge under the bezel with a penlight, you'll see numbers in Centrigrade....most of the time.

My SC now has 964 gauges. But the oem gauge (euro delivery) had them..... |
Yep again, so much for "IIRC"....mine reads as shown above!
|
Sorry to have to see you admit that in public.....
You gonna buy some graphics one of these days? |

Yep.....BTW......I can do a side script in the Porsche font that says "Wanker de Jour"......or "Joe Bob B Rite"
|
Hmmm.....OK, whatever..... but "jour" should not be capitalized, and your English ain't quite "rite".... SmileWavy Thx, but ain't need no grafix rite now.

Yes, original. And yes, Celsius.
|
no numbers on my 83's gauge
|
As I mentioned...it's not consistent on the printed numbers but the temps are.....
You can get an overlay or just memorize them..... |
just to keep it simple and not over think ...
toward the bottom to mid point your good ... above level line its gettin warm pointing up gettin hot ... pegged up its burnin up or gauge or sender is broken ... also if it stays on the bottom and does not move you may want to have a look around something is wrong .... you should see the gauge bump and drop right about the time the thermostat opens .... I don't worry about it too much. On a very hot day in stop and go traffic mine gets to the notch one click before red

Geeze,..once I understood what the marks represent (temp-wise),,..I've since learned how to read the gauge (no numbers necc'y) and have forgone any need to change out the sensor nor instrumentation......
Good enough for me, for now! Best! Doyle |
