SW Chip

Hey guys, I installed an SW chip about 2-3 wks ago. For the past few days I have been having some acceleration problems. After I release the gas pedal, the car stays reved up and I have to press on the gas for it to return to its normal state. It does not do that with the OE chip. I was wondering if any of you have experienced this problem. If so what was the remedy.

Thanks

I did not experience that type of behavior, but before I installed the SW chip, I checked my throttle body, as instructed by Steve Wong himself. It turned out my throttle body was bad and needed replacement. Steve suggested checking it to make sure it was operating correctly, in order to obtain WOT (Wide Open Throttle), as the throttle not working correctly would negatively impact the improvements provided by his chip. All this said, you may want to start at the throttle body and see where that takes you.

Likely your idle microswitch is not engaging closed when your throttle is released, which has the DME think you are still in part throttle mode. Either the switch is sticky and intermittent, or your throttle linkage is too tight. Your tap of the throttle is just enough to get the switch to reactivate. You've likely had this problem for a while now. It's just the stock chip hid the problem better.

The other thing to watch out for is that the hose clamp on the 90 degree rubber boot clamping around the inlet of the throttle body is positioned so the screw is away from the throttle linkages. It is a common mistake for the screw to be positioned next to the throttle linkages, and if one were to go full throttle, the throttle will either be stopped prematurely against the screw, or the throttle linkage will jam and stay at full throttle!! Proper position of the hose clamp is for the screw to be positioned to the rear of the car.

Hello guy's,

Charlie before you jump into the complicated stuff, read this.

BIG scare today.

Make sure this is not what's happening to your car. This is as simple as it gets.

BTW, is not the chip.

Thanks Orlando, I saw the link and I went outside and took a pic. What do you guys think, should it be replaced using the criss-cross method?

Thanks

If it's tight (no wiggle), you don't have to. You can add a second one for insurance if you want. I was hoping that was your problem, easiest fix ever.

You should try now Steve's advice, he knows his stuff.

hard to tell from the angle, but is your throttle return spring attached on both ends, kinda looks like it's hanging there . . . and not helping the throttle come back to idle (which could also cause your problem)

Update. We (Jim and I)well Jim resolved the accelaration problem for me. the bushing on the throttle body were worn out. We lubed them up and it temporarily fixed the problem, I need to replace the bushings and give it a good cleaning. Now I just have to work on the High idle issue.
