Weber carbs ?

In a package deal of a couple of cars and lots parts I got a set of Weber carbs. They are not horrid looking but clearly will need a rebuild. I did get them complete with air cleaners. manifolds, linkage and everything. They were on a 2.2 engine, not sure which version but probably a T.

Model number on the side says: 40IDS3C1 and 40IDS3C

One of them has throttle shafts that are locked up solid and the brass butterflys in 2 of the throttle bodies are slight bent as someone clearly tried to shove on the and get them to rotate. I am using PB blaster and will give it several days of soaking and see if they free up.

I am planning on building a hotrod engine but want to go MFI but maybe using these is a good idea?

Any tips on getting the throttle shaft freed up?

Any suggestions on where to send these out for a full rebuild should I decide to go that route?

Terry,

Yes, 40IDS3C and 40IDS3C1 are highly sought after.
No, having the ‘high speed enrichment’ isn’t a performance factor for many.

Keep soaking them in PB Blaster and don’t force them open.
I recommend you send them to a pro rebuilder and then sell them to a needing (and willing to pay $$$$) ’67-‘68S owner.

These are not a substitute for a proper MFI or EFI.

Best,
Grady

Totally concur with Grady.

The best man to rebuild these properly to ensure operation and retain value is Paul Abbott at Performance Oriented. Nobody else will ever rebuild my carbs besides him.

Steve,
It is much more fun when (the few times) we disagree.
Argument is the 'spice of life'.

Again we agree ... no argument.

Best wishes to you my friend,
Grady

Thanks for tips and help. I reckon I will contact Paul and get an estimate on costs and time to get them redone and plan on selling them.

Any ideas or thoughts on how much they should be worth?

I've been watching carb sales on eBay since I'm hoping to convert to EFI and sell the Webers to re-coup some of the cost. I've seen prices from $1500 to $2500, but none of them have sold.

Prices vary widely due to condition, whether they are ItaIian or American-made carbs, and who rebuilt them.

Lots of variables,....
