wanted: a/c techy's
Hello all, im getting ready to remove my old evap from my 83sc and replace it with the rennaire upgrade....My a/c kinda cools but not enough, roughly getn about 63 deg at outside temp of 85, not good here in Houston with the future being HOTTTT.....Ive upgraded the compresor to the sanden and changed the dryer when i put the a/c back together last yr but everything else is the original including the two condensors...
Question is, does anyone have the forums links on here which have the best information on a/c installation/vacumm/freon which could help me do this right..ive recently bought the gauges and a small vacuum pump....Thks for any responses and any help..... |

You can search as there are plenty of A/C threads on the forum or just PM me and I will let you know what I did to my '87. I live in the Houston area as well so i know that you will need a lot more if you want good cooling.

If you decide to use R134a, you will need to replace the hoses. The old hoses are not made of barrier material and the small R134a molecules will pass thru the hose walls!
I also have an SC with air and have replaced every component in the system with upgrades where possible. I have the Sanden compressor, the Pro cooler, new hoses (made them myself reusing the end fittings), the Rennair evaporator and the "Desert Duty" front condenser. The rear condenser has been replaced also, but is the original design. I have also added the Khuel vents (center and ends). Now, using R134a, I can get 45 degree vent temps on a 90 degree day. I think that with a little more tweaking of the gas charge I will be able to get the vent temps down into the upper 30's. So, it can be done! Lots of elbow grease and some $$$ will get the cabin of your SC nice and comfy!

thk yall for the info....yes i think im going to replace some of the last old hoses still left on the car while im taking it apart, and i did the same as u fred and had a local shop reuse my old fittings since there kinda irreplaceable...
