How you can tell when your wife "Gets it"!
My wife just gave me the coolest gift ever: Nürburgring Nordschleife - An Enthusiast's Bend Guide
This is the coolest gift I have ever gotten. (or maybe she is just trying to make sure I don't splat myself when we finally are able to go over and drive the Nordschleife...) She has been a good investment. She came with her own tools, can drive the Pooche within 5% of me and has fallen asleep in the passenger seat at 135. Oh, and she is small enough I can throw her over my shoulder. How fricken cool!

Congrats on the awesome gift. The good ones are hard to find and it's even rarer to find one that's willing to participate (vs tolerate) our habbits. Here's what my wife gave me for my birthday, while at the Emory Porsche Campout:
![]() and how she let me decorate our 3yr olds room: ![]() ![]() Yup - we're the lucky ones for sure! Although I'm pretty sure your wife has mine beat. Yours at least knows about "The Ring", mine still thinks I'm talking about jewelry ![]()

I knew my wife got it after riding with me for session at a Laguna Seca DE.
The first thing she said when she got out... "I will never question you again when you want to buy tires!" That was several years ago and it is still true today. ![]() I may have ever so slightly taken advantage of her offer. As now the 911 has 15x11s and 14s. ![]() ![]() |

I can certainly tell you how to know if your wife "Doesn't get it!" But, she does throw hints about that my fascination is minimally tolerable.

My wife came home from work one day and told me she got in a heated argument with coworkers on the correct pronunciation of "Porsche" (they are all English teachers)...she told them if THEIR husbands owned Porsches they would know how to pronounce it correctly!

Patti and Glynn are great people! I helped on the pit crew on four races and they were a lot of fun.

My Wife understands the warm-up procedure for the AM's....quite important, in my book. she knows the temp gauge (and the neccessity of checking it often),...what RPM's are allowed below 148 degress F...then what's allowed at 180 degrees F...,..and when to hit then manually enaged fan on the front cooler (a converted rear window wiper switch on the console----removed the hideous-looking rear window wiper assembly). Although the Porsche temp sensing unit is installed on that front oil cooler (factory), she knows to engage that fan MANUALLY , should she see +200 on the temp......I think it's cool as all get-out..............a sense of "tuning-in" on the P-car!
BEST! Doyle

Very jealous of all of you... My GF doesn't get it, does not seem ever will, does not want to participate, nor does she tolerate it much - I'm pretty much on my own. Even trying to bribe her to accompany me to the Canadian F1 race doesn't do it. Geez - do love her though, so its just business as usual, but boy would I like for her to be more receptive!

When I told my wife I was going to race at Road Atlanta, she said "I will rent the motorhome so we all can be comfortable." I don't go to a race without my girls (wife and 11 year old daughter)

My wife understands. She is constantly telling people "he loves his car , more than me".
She has also been in it at 130, driven it herself at about that speed, been a passenger and driver at autocross, Knows it has 6 carbs, knows it needs to fill the bowls before pumping, and then knows it needs to warm up, She loves the sound, but hates driving it in traffic. She's cool! |

When my wife and I visited Europe for the first time, we made a two day detour to Stuttgart for the sole purpose of visiting the Porsche and Mercedes museums. Oh yeah, it was during our honeymoon!
Required photo evidence from the museum visit. ![]() ![]()

One more thing to add:
About 3 years ago, at the Barrett Jackson auction, I went to see my good friend in Phoenix (Wayne). Always at the time of the auction - to have a boys trip, golf and drink. Well I told my wife that the vendors usually have good promotional deals. My wife calls Wayne and tells him that I can not leave the auction on Saturday without buying a 4-post lift for my projects. So what I am to do. Struck a deal with the guys from Superlift and they shipped it about 2 months later. As long as I don't get too nuts, she likes me working on the project cars. I am usually home in the man cave doing something. The 2010 Cayenne GTS she bought is her "baby". Now she reminds me when I need to give it a bath. I am working on her to buy a RS or RSR clone - so that I have something to drive while working on the 930 project. This, however, is a major work in progress. She wants to drive the additional car too - and as of now - she does not want to shift. I am not sure how to work this, but I will keep trying. Mark |
