Steering rack repairs??

My 77S is due for a full suspension rebuild. Upon inspection, I noticed that a lot of the play in the front is coming from the steering rack. Is this play adjustable and can I rebuild rack myself? There are no bad leaks, just a minor leak from the cover in the middle.

+1 on the u-joints.

You can rebuild - essentially strip, clean and re-pack with grease.
Inspect the bearings and puck (thrust piece), check the lash w/o the u-joints - should yield some improvement. Check the rubber coupler too - yours may be quite old.
The leak is the grease that separated into sludge and oil.
The insides of the tie rod boots will have caught some evidence too.

Here's a good thread: Steering Rack "Rebuild" Procedure
