Strange Noise then car won't start

I've got a problem with my 3.2.
Just out of a major body rebuild.
Got the car home and put it in the garage.
A couple of days later I connected it up to the trickle charger / battery conditioner. As I did so I noticed there was a strange noise coming from the bulkhead area at the drivers side (Right hand drive). Almost sounded like a relay switching but was more kind of scratchy. As I was about to disconnect the conditioner from the battery, the noise stopped, so I left the conditioner on.

This morning I went into the garage to drive the car. Switched off, then disconnected the conditioner. Turned the ignition key. The guages seem to work but the engine doesn't turn over and I get what seems to be the same noise coming from the dash.

How should I begin trouble shooting this. The battery should be fine, as it was on charge right up to just before I tried to start the car.

Thanks

Do you have a spare DME relay. The noise from the dash could be the warning buzzer relay that is still plugged and dead but still activating the internal wiring.

Is the noise loud or soft from the dash?

The DME Relay will click twice if working properly

Evening update!
The immediate starting problem was actually a partially drained battery. There wasn't enough juice to turn the motor. I had my spare charging all day and when I swapped them out, the car started.
I think however that the route of my problems lie in the alarm. It is an ancient Moss alarm, which seems to be playing up. After I got the car started I went for a wee run. I got cut up by a Jag XF, hit the horn and the alarm came on - odd. Also the remote is not working. I think I will replace the alarm with something more modern and reliable and not to mentio secure. It's something I really need to do and hopefully that will resolve my battery draining problem too.
