how low can you go?

Hey guys - I'm thinking of lowering the SC just a tad below european ride height.
I was interested in seeing how low you can go without disrupting the fine
balance between handling and looks.

On a side note, it would just be interesting to see a car that's been hammered down
as far as it can go, just for posterity's sake......

Not a 911 SC but one of the lowest 964 models I've seen. Maybe it doesn't have to go up driveways.

You can go about 1/2" below Euro until you will need Bump Stop Spacers to avoid the effects of bump on steering.

We recently lowered a buddies '86 down to 24" Front and 23.5" in the Rear. Whoa that was low

Caveat, you will get extreme Negative Camber up front. he is at -1.8 and completely maxed out on the camber adjustment, hitting the side wall of the strut housing. He may need to raise the fronts or relocate his spindles at $125 each.

My car is 24 rear 24 1/2 front. In order for my car to work at this level, I have raised the front spindles 22mm and installed a bumpsteer kit. I have also installed 22 and 30 mm torsions with cut down stops. With out these mods I would be bouncing off the bump stops over every crack in the pavement.

Not mine, but we found out the hard way this afternoon that this is too low. For the street, at least. FG splitter lip caught a raised edge of pavement in the junction between an alley and the street and cracked.

Mine is 23.75 and 24.5

at speed

I think the only way I could get lower would be to put on smaller wheels and tires.

dropping it will help with the handling and as long as you have the suspension adjusted to compensate there is not really a too low point other than just real life issues. The post office here has pretty high speed bumps and I always drag on them, but I have a forgiving rubber front lip, and fibergass rockers. I had my lowered by a air cooled Porsche shop.

AIR flares (old molds. the flares are 20 years old or so) Heavily massaged to look factory...

70SC & JeremyD,

Any issues with the front Fender Lips, did you guys have to roll the fenders?

Also, could you guys share your front camber readings?

My buddies '86 even with Bump Spacers can only get a max positive camber of -1.8, before we tried to correct it, he was at a whopping -2.4

I suspect a bent spindle or at a minimum relocation of the spindles even with Bump Spacers.

Jim

Mines a wide body - so not sure it would help much.

No clearance issues with 255 tires up front - although with my 235 ties and 18mm spacers on my track tires I was getting a little interference and rolled the passenger side a little

Thanks for the reply JD,

What is your front cambers set at?

Wow, even with a wide flares you get scuffed? Geez. But she looks awesome

It is painful to be beautiful

My SC is setup pretty low. Must measure though:

My 2 liter race car is set up even lower:
