oh crap week getting worse...transmission

Car is 82 SC with 915 trans. I posted earlier about how I thought my clutch gave out at a lapping day Sunday (clutch pedal suddenly went to floor, there was bad rumbling noise and lost all power to wheels). I had the car towed to my house today and I see that the car will roll forward in gear (but not backwards). It was also hard (with engine off just now) to shift it into all gears except 1 & 2. I'm guessing this may mean there is something wrong with my transmission (before the failure on track it was very difficult to get into 3rd gear). Or can the clutch letting go (sounded like rubber center blew up or pressure plate blew into pieces) cause the car to be able to roll in gear? Tentative plan is to pull engine/trans in near future. To top it off I have a kidney stone (TMI, sorry).

Nothing in the trans will cause the clutch to go to the floor. It's not unusual to have a couple gears blocked when the trans is not turning.

Phil

If you completed a shift when the clutch went to the floor its possible that you hurt the trans. If you did not engage a gear during or after the clutch fail you should be OK. Even better, clutch to the floor is more of a linkage (broken cable, broken clutch shaft on the pedal assembly, etc.) problem than an internal one. Remove your pedal board and poke around at the pedal cluster before you do anything. You might also get the car in the air (and support it with appropriate safety items) and check the aluminum anchor for the end of the bowden tube (at the side of the differential) - that anchor might have broken.

Of course, not knowing your car, the age of its components, how its driven and maintained, etc., it's impossible to do anything more than guess. That said, you might have more than one problem (difficulty shifting into third could be the beginning of a synchro problem), but don't worry about anything until you learn what broke on the clutch. Post what you find!

hopefully its just the clutch ......

for one, it started at the track, and two, no point owning a car like this if you don't push it. I was also thinking the shift problem was due to trying to shift while the engine was twisting on the mounts due to being at high revs.

Sorry to read about your kidneys, geez the fun never stops, eh. Hope you pass those without too much pain.

I placed Cabriolet Trans and Motor mounts on my '85 Targa my buddy placed Cab Motor mounts on his '87 ( G50 do not use the same mounts on he tranny ) we both noticed easy shift to 3rd.

I went a step further with help from SW, Sherwood's SIENES GATE SHIFT KIT, I never ever miss shift again and plops into all gears almost without thinking about it.

Plus 1, if you did grind into gear without the clutch depressed it may have hurt the trans. drain and check it out.
