9x16 Fuchs from 6x16 ??

How many shops would build a wheel like this? Lindsey? Others? Who's got "the list" of who would do this??

Seeing prices of OEM 9x16's spike as of late has me thinking along these lines....

Any comments on bolt-up ( 2, 3 piece) vs complete re-weld as one piece?

- Wil

Wil, there is a guy that shows up in the classifieds that goes by Sonjay. He just put some up for sale that he did.
He says he has been doing it for 25 years.

Don't know him nor have I dealt with him but he might be an option.

I got a set of 8x16 and 9.5x16" wheels that are made on BBS rims with 6" centers. Originally rdane and/or Mark Wilson had the wheels made but I do not know who did them. Legend has it they were done by "someone in the midwest" and they took a while but that is all I know. The welding is beautiful and the wheels bolt up to my SC with no rubbing.

Jim Lyon at Truedesign Wheels in Wheat Ridge Colorado is the man. I worked out all the offsets with him for 8 and 9.5x16's for an SC/Carrera body. He will use 16x6's for the 9.5's and your 7's for the 8's. He had used all 16x6 cores but after my prodding he's just recently worked out the logistics to use the stock 7". That means that all you guys with a stock set of 16x6/7 can turn your wheels into 8/9.5's.

Pelican joefranz just had a set done by Jim Lyon here in
Denver. I was impressed. They had a lot of Fuchs in process
and the workmanship and results near perfect (you seldom
hear me use that level).

Plus, Jim is a pleasure to deal with. Honest guy and I think his prices are very fair.

I had the set that Gary showed in his pic. They are beautifully made. NO rubbing on my 84 either with a 245/225 tire combo.

Cheers

Are they really that bad? Patience and you will eventually find a set for a decent price.

As Grady said -- I just had some wheels done by Jim. We added an inch to the inside of two 6x16's to create 7x16's with 49mm offset.
Outstanding work, done right on time, plus Jim went to great lengths to explain his process and answer questions.
Highly recommended.

Joe

Jim Newton at Auto Associates in Canto, CT sourced a pair of 16X11 3 piece for me. Bolted construction. He did the finishing in RSR look and I'm very happy. The fronts were refinished from 16X9 OEM Fuchs.

PM me if you're interesting in the pricing. Contact Jim for details.

As a side note, the 8's I had made for the front are the perfect backspace for the rear of narrow body cars. Shuie test fitted my original "test mule" set of wheels on the rear of his early car and reported no interference. Tires were 255/50 BFG's. I didn't talk with Jim about building 7's for the front, but I assume he could.

Mark, very nice Do you know if the 8's allow any better brake clearance, for say, big reds or at least 993 calipers?

I know the 951 offset 8's will clear a 993 caliper...
