Oh....nuthin' much. The usual thrash, Ishouldahadthisdonemonthsasago, bit. I hate jacking the car in the air by myself. Murphy is gonna get me one of these days.http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate.../Airborbe1.jpg
Doing brakes, seat is getting recovered, have a slight oil leak....the scourge of the DIYers, it seems. Here's bout 3 weeks worth. I'm thinkin it's the intermediate cover plate......or(gulp) front seal/bearing. All of it is under the engine mount and inaccessable without droping the motor. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...loads/drip.jpg When you get back to the big PX, you can have all this *fun* too. |
First time at this!!!
Project is 1978sc 113,000 miles two broken headstuds and grinding in second. Will be rebuilding engine and transmission. At moment I have dropped engine and trans and have them seperated. So far so good. I'm really enjoying the process.
|
If you got the engine and transmission out without incident... then you are one step ahead of me when I was at that stage....
Good luck with the rebuild, if you have any questions feel free to email me. |
Just driving the '73 T everyday. When it's warmer I'm going to replace all the carpets as they're falling apart in places - heat and dampness the cause, I think. I'm going to put a new headliner on the Targa top and generally clean up the interior. I want to get the Fuchs painted to origianl spec - they're later all black ones. That's about it, just drive it then. No mods., I like them original - fine for anyone else to do what they want, of course.
Looking forward to your return, Leland. :) |
Leland, it might be my imagination, but I thought you had bought some leatherseats recently? Shouldn't they be on the "to do" list? Or were you just considering buying some seats?
I've asked around for black leather seats recently and have found 2 front seats from a 1997 993. Fully electrical adjustment and as new condition. I think they would feel themselves at home in my little silver 911 ;) I'm actually planning to look at them next week http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/kwijl.gif |
I'm accumulating pieces for a major change to my near perfect original interior. Hope to have it all done by summer.
|
My current project is...buying a house with a decent garage/shop to hold my next project!
Which is...a 914/6 race car of some to-be-determined flavor. |
Here's the latest photo of the 73S project. I pulled the motor last August. I'm really anxious to get this thing done. Motor down to main bearings, modS cam grind, slightly higher compression etc.
Here's where I'm at today. Just getting set-up to measure sprocket alignment. I'm trying to get that done today and maybe time the left cam. Hope to be on the road for Cambria..... Bruce Herrmann http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...73rebuild9.jpg |

HI Leland,
Your list is impressive,i do a lot of work on mine,my english is bad , i will not make a list of it... the winter is long in Quebec we have time... |
Well, mine's a minor list of complaints...
1) Get the new decklid painted and fitted, replacing the turbo tail. 2) Experiment with the exhaust, maybe dump the banana muffler altogether. 3) Polish the Fuchs, they're a little dull. |
Looks like I'm not the only one have the car parked and engine and tranny apart. Well, my valve adjustment is done, oil leak fixed and new clutch ready to install. Still waiting for my tranny back from the shop for the Quaife:D and new syncos. In the meanwhile, I want to replace some bushings and put my Carrera tail. Not sure when it'll be done, especially my newborn be here anytime, but I'll work on it whenever I have time.

Leland,
Just putting the finishing touches on my 3.3l Turbo install in my 1970 911 E. It's up and running, well. SCWDP members have obviously never driven a Turbo or the decals would say TCWDP. ha ha ha. I've got an '80 SC also and it's bulletproff Nowhere near as fast as the Turbo but bulletproof. I'm working out some suspension kinks but should be done by next week. Oh yeah, I also updated my dash facia to the later model vinyl look. Now my bastardized '70 looks and runs late model Turbo thru and thru. Next project will be power brake upgrade. All the goodies are in my garage but I work on this car more than I drive it. Time to rip up the road. Cheers. |
Last year I bought a 69 911. I knew It needed some work on the front suspension and the engine needed some attention. So since September I've:
1 Replaced the suspension pan. 2.Replaced the suspension bushings. 3. Stripped the fuel tank and refinished and reinstalled. 4. Rebuilt the pedal cluster and installed new master cylinder. 5. Stripped out the windshield wiper assembly for rebuild. 6. Stripped out the heater blower assembly for rebuild. 7. Installed new rotors all round. 8. Dropped the engine - Rebuilt the heads - Checked bores, pistons etc. I'm currently waiting for head gaskets, O rings, camshaft gaskets, etc... to complete the build up. I intend to reinstall the wiper assembly, just about ready, and the heater blower, found a replacement motor. The engine is an E but with Webers so I am also waiting for the rebuild kits. I'm am going to upgrade the brake calipers, a local wrench has some carrera steel calipers as the S types are corroded beyond repair, this should balance out the rear braking pressures a bit better. I've also replaced the window winder mechanisms Bodywise the car is a RS conversion so the front spoiler needs some glass fibre work. My wife and kids wonder who I am when come into the house, All this has been achieved in the middle of the Canadian winter in an unheated garage. My doctor thinks I have reynauds syndrome and figures I've contracted it as a result of some kind of cold trauma....If only he knew. I'm having a ball, Just hoping I can get this thing on the road so I don't miss our 2 months of summer this year. |
My SC is a constant project. The the immediate ones, however are:
Pick up FM 10s from Wheel Enhancement; Get tires, mount wheels; R&R rear Targa window with new C2 trimless rubber seal; DE in April at Willow Springs; Take the SC down to brembo for measurements for the F50 calipers and have hats and caliper mounting adapters fabricated for 13' full floating rotors, install big brakes and fab air duct system from OEM front valance where the fog lights were; Have 220v hooked up; Learn to paint with new HVLP system; Paint and install my new Gemballa side rocker covers and MA Shaw fiberglass hood. Then I can turn my sight onto picking up a 3.6 block in need of rebuild to start the rebuilt with a goal of bhp of 300. Just enough to push the limits of my 915. Estimated time - 1 year for full completion. |
Right now my list is pretty small, untill my other house sells. I have very little money to pamper my baby with. But I have been driving her alot.
I just put new front brake pads on. And I'm planning a valve adjustment and oil change. When the house sells: Fresh paint New seats RS interior New dash New front glass After first of the year: SSI's and I haven't decided which muffler to go with next time. I like the GHL, but it is loud. I'm leaning to a stock 2 in 2 out for a while. |
Lots of neat projects here! pwd72s, 915/67.12 for ROW 3.2 Carrera(Bruce Anderson told me a few southern US cars got them also). Internal mechanical pump and spray bar that delivers oil to the critical points. 40% lsd, external cooling circuit(the last gasp of the 915)

Bill? Thanks for the enlightenment....what can I say? WOW! Again, thank you. Again, "way cool!"
|
My current project is replacing my steering wheel. Next is Carrera chain tensioners and pop-off valve. After that is the removal of the turbo tail and a new proper SC decklid. Beyond that the list is endless and my car is already in great shape!!! Does it ever end??
