I am glad to see some nice projects.
This winter I fabricated an intercooler for my turbo. I also fabricated a SS dual outlet exhaust system for the turbo. I put 930 brakes on. I installed a MSD6-AL. I have to finish my custom aircleaner housing now, but my welder is broken so I have to fix that first.
I want to drive it now.

Leland's list looks more like a 10-year plan for me, but here's my immediate To Do List:

1) Install newly purchased sports seats (from 930, black leather bolsters w/ black & white pinstripe centers). Along with this comes changing carpet and rest of interior to black (RS door panels already installed). Truth is I'll probably end up driving around for a while with a hideous combination of black and black/white stripe along with cork and tartan plaid interior.

2) Have Sam at Pelican rebuild my speedo. (& purchase a T-shirt).

3) Start my glass trim update: 964 front and rear and 993 rear quarter

4) Purchase my SCWDP stickers-DOHH, didn't realize Canada addresses require extra postage.

Very, very ambitious, Leland. I guess this means you won't have time for girls.

I split my engine case moments ago! Very exciting. My project also includes fixing a torn door stop bulkhead (thanks, Tyson), painting wheel centers and a few other things. She's been off her feet six weeks now, so I am anxious to get her back on 'track.' Except for stupid little things like washers and stuff, I have all the parts on hand, so there are few excuses. If time permits (yeah, right!) I hope to be near the final stages next weekend.

Leland Pate 03-03-2002 09:05 PM

Ha!
Screw girls... I've got my car to work on!!!!!!!! :D ;)

Mikkel, I have the black high backs reasdy to put in. Let me know what happens with your 996 seat install.

With the exception of one or two parts that are still in transit, everything on that list is now sitting in my bosses garage back home... yeah... I'm sure he's real thrilled.... :D

There are some really good projects going on here!

PBS, you've got me wondering about replacing the rear window seal with a later one... I didn't know you could do that...
here's another thing to add to my list :D

Bill, that cooler setup is sweet!

WOW, leland thats a list and a half!!!!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

2. fix front and rear fogs.
3. install central door locking.
4. install chin spoiler.
5. valve adjustment. (aarrrggggghhhhh)
6. sort out front brakes – pulls to the left slightly (perhaps that should be 1st on the list!!)

some more in the pipe line (need the parts)

1. change heat exch. cross over pipe (its leaking slightly).
2. turbo tie rods
3. sports shocks.
4. re-alignment.

now i'm just dreaming (need funds for the parts!) – why not??!!!

MonkeyBoy 03-04-2002 03:18 AM

Not too exciting, but I replaced my flag mirrors with aero ones this weekend and replaced my retractable rear seat belt with a non-retractable one

RarlyL8 03-04-2002 06:30 AM

Well, if I can get up the funds, time, and parts I just might break down and put a little tire dressing on the 345s this weekend.
;)

'84 3.2 cabrio now looks like a grasstrack car.

Major body renovation started.
Front wings (fenders) removed, front spoiler/bumper removed and dis-assembled.
Cabrio hood ready to come off
Rear spoiler off
15Kg of dirt scooped out of various crevices
Holes poked in front chassis tub (near impct shock mounts) with large screwdriver - is this bad ???

fingers mutilated with wire brush, small amount of rust removed from inner wings also.
Windscreen to come out for "slight rust repair"
Door shuts to be replaced.

Guy from body shop visiting to give the bad news soon..

Then remove interior and rear bumper/lights and pack it off for a bare metal respray. The engine and suspension are staying put - this is the same colour respray AND I want to be back on the road this year.

Will need a full carpet set installing.
Need fuel pump mounting bracket replacing.
Will leave front fog lights off... cooling kit to come.

Might repaint the 16" Fuchs, black centres matt finish rims, while it is in there. Then again £££
Will try and re-use all the rubber where possible.

DRIVE CAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Next I have a few minor jobs

915 rebuild
shift coupler and bushes
pedal cluster rebuild
New front discs/pads
Engine bay cleanup
Suspension cosmetic renovation (shocks, bushes and bars are OK)

What a bunch of freaks we are!

My car is also up on jackstands with a big empty hole in the back waiting the new engine and tranny.

A newbie to this board must think that nobody ever actually drives a 911- just has a garage full of parts.

Wow!! I love it.. seeing and reading all this cool stuff really gets me stoked up.
I spent all of about 7 months rebuilding my motor and a few small updates and upgrades. neighbors are getting ansy.. it's funny they keep asking me how much longer?
when am I going to fire it up? they don't seem to understand the complexity of all the preperation and planning and extra work that goes into this type of project. Sure my motor has been back in my car for about 2 weeks. I suppose I can hook up my battery and give it a go.. but I would rather wait a couple of more weeks and complete a few other things first.
Here my list of tasks recently completed or in progress not in specific order.

1. Completed Motor Rebuild
2. Installed new clutch
3. Installed new clutch cable( needs to be adjusted)
4. completed TARGA TOP restoration
5. installed new Aero mirrors
6. need to drain gas tank and clean.
7. install new fender mounting oil cooler( Replacing Trombone)
8. flush oil lines going to new oil cooler.
9. installed new gage face plates.
10. upgrade stock Disks to Brembo cross drilled rotors
11. completed muffler modification, is now 2 in 2 out with 3-1/2 out lets.. it looks soooo nice can't wait to hear them.
12. Recarro seats are out and have recently went out for face lifts and they look very nice.
13. installed INFINITY speakers in door panels, rear deck and XSUB in front compartment.. ( I need Tunes.) oh yeah. 250 watt amp. also.
14. I am making my own custom center caps for my Fiske FM-10's
at a buddy's shop using his lathe.
15. modify and paint rear valance to except muffler mod.
I anticipate about 2-3 more weeks to complete my list. and then it a complete detail job. and then it's Varooom!!! Zoom zoom!

Jorge ( Targa Dude)

Considering how reliable the CIS SC's are supposed to be, I'm surprised by how many people have their engine's apart;)

Anyhow, here's my list.

* Install Turbo Tie Rods (Done)
* Set the ride height and corner weight the car. Mostly done. (BTW, I think that my car may have a bent frame since the my numbers are looking a little strange with driver ballest and 1/2 a tank of fuel in the car. (I've listed them below) I'm not sweating it since the car will be getting a complete strip in a couple of years. It's just one more thing to do at that time.)
* Realign the car.
* Drop the motor (again!)
* Replace the gaskets on the timing change covers. They are leaking on to the exhaust and causing my wife to constantly complain about the car's smell.
* Replace the transmission gaskets since they are leaking.
* Reinstall the motor (again!)
* (optional) Hook up one of the unused switches on the dash as a "cold start enrichment" for the MFI. One of the previous owners had removed all of the cold start equipment because it wasn't reliable. I figure getting 12V (tied to the start circuit rather then the run circuit) to the cold start solenoid on the MFI should peg the rack and work fine. The previous owner had tried to do this, but the switch leaked voltage and caused the MFI to run so rich that the car would not start when hot.
* Find a job!!!!

Hopefully I'll get this all done by the end of the month.

Corner Weight and Ride Height Data:

Front Target Height: 25 Inches at fender.
LF: 24 12/16 inches and 480 lbs
RF: 25 inches and 440 lbs

Rear Target Height: 24 1/2 inches at the fendor.
LR: 25 inches and 780 lbs. (11 10/16 to the top of the torsion bar tube)
RR: 24 12/16 inches and 780 lbs. (11 9/16 to the top of the torsion bar tube).

Hmmmm

Install MSD 6A, tach adapter and ignitor.
New muffler--done.
Adjust valves.
Check out brakes--master cylinder and lines.
New shift linkage bushings--half done(made brass ones)

Thats on my 72E. There may be a new project coming along.

Gather more parts for 2.5 liter race engine 66mmX89mm.
Aquire an early shell for an S-T project!

Get the computer fixed in my 5.0 mustang.
Sell mustang.

Change baby diapers.

Thats enough.

Get my garage looking like this!

Garage thread

Then I'll have some room to actually work on the 911...right now I have to work on it with the garage door open with the 911 engine facing the street. Soon the neighbors will start complaining that I'm mooning them...

-New gas pedal
-Shift coupler bushings
