How do you know if you have LSD??

I am going to replace the oil in my 915 transmission (81 SC) and from the threads that I have read, I am leaning toward the Kendal over the Sweptco product.

Frist question - what input do the experienced her have about the differences in these in a 915 which to me seems very 'notchy' in shifting.

Second question - there appear to be two products, one for a LSD and one for non-LSD diff. I am assuming I don't have a limites slip but how does one know for sure?

Third question - how many quarts are needed for the trans?

4th question - is there any trick to getting the oil into the trans and if so what is it? (Some one once told me something about a suction pump needed to put oil in the trans...)

Thanks

Jack up the rear of the car.

Spin a rear wheel.

Watch the other one.

If it spins the same direction, then you have some sort of LSD.

If it spins the opposite direction, then you have an open diff.

Limited slip will have a /12 in the internal spec number such as 915/63/12 stamped on the bottom of the trans next to the build ID number.
In neutral both wheels will turn in the same direction when you turn one wheel by hand.
Just less than 4 quarts. You can buy the pump at autozone or the like.

I use a hand pump. It looks like a giant soap dispensor pump that you attach to the top of the oil container.

If you spin the wheels, beautiful colors will fly off of them and turn into giant birds that fly right through the melting walls....

(forgive me, I couldn't resist..)
