SC Electric Mirror Control Question

I am digging into my '82 SC doors for a number of maintenance items (new stops, re-enforcement plates, lubrication, etc). While in there, I am attempting to repair/fix my inoperative side mirrors.

Some PO cut the wires for the mirrors, probably to remove the doors for the repaint. I wired up the passenger side windows, but waiting for some parts to complete the drivers side mirror. The control seems OK (wiring wise) and wired up OK.

I attempted to adjust the passenger side mirror, but nothing is operating. Does anyone know if the mirrors require both sides to be wired up?

So in summary:

* Door adjustment switch is wired up
* Left/Right (between mirrors) seems OK
* Passenger side window is wired OK
* Drivers side is disconnected

Should this scenario still allow for both mirrors to be inoperable? I reviewed the wiring diagrams and nothing seems connected between the driver and passenger side mirror (besides control and left/right switch).

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated?

Thanks,

Chuck

Check fuse 14? I am not sure if they both need to be hooked up. Do you have a Bentley manual? Did you select the passenger side mirror?

You should have a rocker switch on the dash that controls which side mirror is adjusted.

I will check the fuse, though I cleaned them all up a couple weeks ago. I will verify power on both sides.

Yes, I selected the passenger side mirror using the switch under the cluster.

Yes, I have the Bentley manual.

Thanks,

Chuck

IIRC the Bentley wiring diagram for the window switches is wrong.

Yeah, the Bentley wiring diagram only shows the hookup for a single mirror with no selector switch. The PO of my car told me that the mirrors just stopped working one day and that he assumed that it was a loose connection. When I got in there both sides were cut. I figured that they did that when the car got resprayed. I've gotten it all hooked back up and both sides are functioning properly now. Here is a thread that has the proper wiring diagram:

electric Mirrors on a 1977 911

It looks like the ground for the adjustment switch is run through the left mirror, so depending on how the wires were cut, that could be the problem. Probably best to just get a voltmeter on there and make sure that you have 12v at the right mirror.

I saw the wiring diagram, very helpful. Also, my driver side mirror is completely cut, so that could be my issue on the ground.

Thanks,

Chuck
