Frustrating electrical problem - HELP!

Help, guys.
I have an 85 911 with a blinker/headlight problem.
While I'm no dummy (please interject comments here ), I'm not the best at diagnosing and fixing electrial problems.

Here's the symptom:
Flashers (turn signals) work fine when running with headlights. All lights operate as they should.

When I turn the headlights on, both arrow indicators on the dashboard come on (solid), and the flashers do not work.

The emergency flashers work o.k. in either case.

I have replaced the directional relay, and no change.

I have also chased around under the dash and in the luggage compartment looking for loose wires. Nothing that seems obvious sticks out.

Yes, the lights and flashers have worked in the past.

Where should I start looking? Can this be related to the headlight switch? Seems like the directional switch is unlikely to be the culprit if the signals work with no headlights on.

HELP!!!

Thanks.

I had a problem that drove me nuts for a while like this. Turned out it was the remote keyless entry that was causing the problem. I hit the remote severa times and all was well. Give it a try.

Thanks, Bill. I've been in & out of the car (elect locks) quite a few times with no effect on the light circuit.

Any places to look (from a troubleshooting point of view) to diagnose this problem? I'm very leery of driving at night until I get signals.

Thanks.
