New Guy Questions
I bought an 82 911SC with a 140,000 miles on it from a friend who owned it two years and only put 500 miles on it because of health problems. I have owned it for about 3 months and put almost 4,000 miles on it. Changed the oil and oil filter, fuel filter, belt, has a K&N air filter and Fab Pro Exhaust. From my limited exp. the car runs great. Oil use 0, leaks 0. Always get 30+ MPG I have added a OEM short shift and replaced all bushings in shift linkage. I have a $6,000 repair receipt that I can not read well done at 70,000 miles. Some thing about valves and head studs. Chain tensioner and pop off were done at that time also according to what I could read off receipts. I am really enjoying this car and plan to use it as a summer week end car only. I have had some professional paint touch up work done also. Oil pressure always runs between 30 and 35 when warm and temp rarely goes above first mark on gauge.I would really like to continue picking away at restoring this cars interior and exterior because the motor seems so strong but do not want to be any more stupid than this car has already made me, it is like a disease. Could I get 200,000 or more with out having to do a major on the engine. I have always run Shell Rotela T semi sin in my air cooled beemers and diesel truck. Would like to continue this with car. This was a grey market car which has caused me some problems following manual instructions as some things are different. Sorry to be so disorganized but I am not real comfortable with computers. Thanks, Tom |

I don't see why not. It sounds like it already had a top end rebuild with the updated pressure fed tensioners. Follow the recommended oil intervals and keep the valves adjusted. The 3.0 liter is well known for being a very durable engine. Enjoy it and welcome to the forum

First let me say welcome - this forum is a great place to learn about your car. Sounds like you are really enjoying your car and having fun. You can search here and find many of these engines go well over 200,000 miles. Pick up Wayne's book and a Bently manual. With those plus having your questions answered here, most jobs can be done.
Enjoy!
