Need a flywheel turned and injectors tested in N.C.
I bought along a few pieces of my car along while on vacation. Yea sick I know but looking for maybe a rainy day activity.
In the Mooresville N.C. area I'm looking to get my flywheel resurfaced and my fuel injectors cleaned and tested. Any recommendations and estimated costs for these here? There is a huge auto related shop population here but looking for a shop that knows our cars. Thanks - Terry

The hard part about getting a flywheel surfaced is that shops with the correct equipment to do it seemed to have disappeared. A flywheel (and brakes) should be blanchard ground instead of turned on a lathe. I used to use custom clutch disks that absolutely required this and it is almost impossible to find a shop that can do it.
As far as the injectors... I recently sent a bunch of injectors off to get them serviced. I was surprised to find that no one that I trusted had a recommendation for a SoCal shop. I finally followed ANDIAL's suggestion (Who wouldn't!) and sent them to Accurate Injector Service in Arizona. The price was cheap, the turn around was very fast, and they called me to discuss my issues even though they already had the injectors perfectly serviced and matched.

I dropped Moorseville, NC into Yahoo Local and found several "Auto Machine Shops" within 50 miles. Call them and ask.
I took mine to an old machine shop in Akron and I was telling the guy about the step having to remain the same distance from the clutch surface and he just looked at me, smiled and said "Dude, I know what to do" They are out there. FWIW, Blanchard is a brand name that long ago became a generic term for a grinder. Definitely must be ground vs turned. $50 for a grind - maybe less deep in the mountains. |

I was thinking if a local Pelicanite has a recommendation for a shop that will do the job right I would go that route. Just thinking local and knowledgeable with our stuff.
I can mail any of the two parts out as I have the luxury of time right now. I know the flywheel needs to be resurfaced on a grinder as opposed to a lathe and the pressure plate seat squarely ground to the same plane. So figuring I'm in Race City USA someone local to N.C. would chime in. The injectors should be a smaller issue for service. Just like to use local and recommended to support our Porsche community. Now that I think of it, Black Forest Racing is only about 15 miles west of Mooresville (across the water though). They are big time Porsche. Call them and ask who they use. I bet you could have the flywheel in a shop today. Black Forest Racing Zuffenhaus is top notch but on the far south east side of Charlotte. http://www.zuffenhaus.us/defaultNew.html Last edited by Bob Kontak; 05-09-2012 at 06:36 AM.. |

Thanks Bob kind of what I'm looking for.
I think that maybe they changed names, I remember jhelgesen (sp?) here posted about an open house but couldn't find the post, I also searched for PPIs in the area and were in the Ashville and Winston/Salem areas. I'll take a ride out that way this week and check it out there is a great Pizza shop over that way just never ventured further over into Denver. Terry

I know a good independent shop in Asheville but that is a lot of driving for you. They are not a machine shop though. Further than Zuffenhaus. My pal in Asheville uses them with his P cars. Let me know.
Black Forest was in Hickory a couple years back. You can at least call. You may have to go "around" to get to Denver. :-) Lots o' water. Good luck. |

Thanks Bob,
Denver N.C. about 20 miles 2 different roads from me. That is good, It turns out my favorite Pizza shop here has a location on Rt16 in Denver. Rt150 is at the end of my drive and heads across Lake Norman Rt16 intersects it. I'll check them out. brakedw - Checked out their site and Accurate Injector Service so mail order might be the route. Did not know the cost for injector service, it's almost half the cost of new, no? I'll search around here tonight to see what the consensus of this board is service or replace. Terry
