If I may comment.
Per Fred mentioning that there is some jumpering/etc. to understand before you blindly replace the fuse panel with e.g. an ATO fuse panel, he is right. There are all sorts of wires and jumpers attached to the upstream side of the fuse panel, e.g. some supply wires are hot on ACC and RUN and not during START/etc. Of course some are always hot. I'm in the middle of making a colored diagram just for the purpose of my understanding the wires coming and going from the trunk fuse panel. I'm using my 89 3.2, Bentley and diagrams sent from this forum to check all the wires and "jumps". I'll post the jpg when finished. It it a fair amount of work. Maybe it will help people while installing Fred's kit. When you get right down there and look at how things are put together, it seems to look a bit amateurish like someone did by hand in their garage or maybe not even that good. The wires have the crimped on ends like used in factory automation (PLC's), that is good to see. You will see how the cover has been pressing on wires/etc. I guess I can't be too critical, it has worked for 23 years. |
Before I jump in to converting to an ATO panel, I'm trying to map what I've got, here is a start, more labeling needs to go on the top and double checking. There are a number of wires I still need to track down, e.g. third wire on far right, same color as the fog light wires. There seems to be errors in the Bentley diagrams, e.g. the fuel pump looks connected as always hot and I know it's not.
Fred, are locations that have "inbetween" terminals all connected on the back, I can't see back there yet. On my car I have two small copper plates tying 2, 3 and 1 on the middle block together, for sure those are tied together. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323040202.jpg |
Thanks!
Thanks to everyone that got a fuse panel from me. Production is shutdown until the end of January (supply issues!). I hope every kit installs cleanly and provides the same flawless service that the one in my car has provided over the last 7 years. If there are any questions, I included contact information with each set of instructions, don't hesitate to call or contact me. Production should resume sometime about the first of February 2012. I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

Just got mine put in. It took quite a bit longer than I had expected, but I'm glad the old fuses are gone. It fixed my interior light problem and should provide more reliable service than the old fuses did.
My only word of caution is that the wiring behind the box doesn't leave anything to spare. So, you'll have to extend a bunch of wires to get them to fit. I had to cut back to clean wire on wires that would already just barely fit in to the old terminal block. Once extended, it adds a a good amount of bulk to the fuse box, but it works. |

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-G...0/P1090048.jpg One of the things I found along the way was that there was some incredibly corroded wiring that had to be cut back on wires that just barely fit the old fuse box. So, I had to add extensions for quite a few wires. Not as clean as I'd like, but it's a lot better than what was in there. Also, the lights for the fog light and defroster switches work now. So, that's a plus. |

Ready to go..........
I've got a standard fuse panel completed for an SC and have a deluxe panel w/relays almost finished for either an SC or for a Carrera. The standard panel is $215 including shipping and insurance and the deluxe panel is $315 including shipping and insurance. Be the next one on your block to upgrade that old fuse panel that is just waiting to cause you grief!

Hi Fred,
Would like one for a 79 3.0 SC. The deluxe model. |
We've gone international!
Just sent a panel to Australia! Who knows where they will go next? The package to Australia took about 10 days travel time but got there in one piece.
|
Who's next?
Got 2-3 ready on the bench, both standard and deluxe (with headlight relays) versions. All I need to know is the year model of your car and which panel you want.
|
Fred, can you elaborate on the difference (pic too if possible) between standard and deluxe panels?
Thanks! |

The top panel is the standard one, the bottom is the deluxe panel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334546595.jpg Prototype panel in my SC. It's been in service for over 7 years now. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334546735.jpg Thanks for the interest |
Hi Fred,
I'm another Pcar owner from downunder and would be interested in one of your deluxe panels. I'm not entirely sure what year panel is in my car as it is a hotrod with a history unknown to me. I think the panel is from an 85 Carrera but can't be certain. If I post a picture would you be able to identify the panel? Cheers Mike |
Here is a pic of my fuse panel hope you can identify.

Thanks for the interest! |
Hi Fred,
When I said I don't know the history of the car I must admit I do know it has a 1970 chassis 1985 running gear and a 93 body. As far as the details of the mods I am in the dark but constantly learning. So I am assuming it is an early fuse panel. I will take a test meter to it this weekend and confirm. Cheers Mike |
Fuse panel year?
I don't believe that style of fuse panel came into being until 1974. Prior to that year the fuse holders were mounted vertically. You should be able to tell from the VIN what year the chassis if from. An overall picture of the car would likely help determing the year or at least a close estimate!

Here is my fuse box with Fred's kit. Still trying to tidy things up.
