Hi Fred are you still making these?

I need a deluxe for an 87 930 Turbo coupe.

I bought these ATO fuse holders with screw terminals, and updated my fuse box.

I would like to tack this myself. Do you have info on where you bought the holders, and any other tips on things to watch for? Also sent PM.

I bought them on Ebay
12 POSITION BUSSED BLADE FUSE BLOCK WITH MOUNTING STRIPS items in ltdrvparts store on eBay!

I just followed the original wiring diagram and wire gauge, and used crimp connectors on all wires

I'm using an ATO fuse block as a circuit isolator. Did anybody ever came across a solid blade in the shape of the ATO fuse?

I could use a fuse but a solid blade should be cheaper.

Fred Cooks ATO Fuse panel installation- What did I learn? 88 Carrera installation
This is a great product, just what my porsche deserves. Well done Fred!
remove all the relays, they just get in the way.
when trying to join three or four wires to one, Butt connectors can be your friend, and save you time and aggravation.
Many of the wires are too short, you will need to add wire. usually from where they have been joined in a group(butt connector) into one wire. get used to it, take your time.
Number the new fuse panel, i used the wire numbering stickers from lowes. counting fuses from left to right or right to left gets old fast and promotes errors. Fred and jwest numbered the fuses the opposite of porsche convention so beware. i followed their convention for the installation.
place a piece of carpet on the floor of the luggage compartment. you will spend alot of time sitting in there. cover the bumper, you will get in and out a hundred times and the paint does not need that.
You will use lots of heat shrink tubing, harbor freight has cheap colored stuff.
Take the time to remove the fuse/relay panel and switch the power take off for the ac condenser fan to fuse #3 porsche or #19 Fred and jwest. you will not get a better time to do this, important especially since the individual fuse panels are only rated to 20 amps each. (not necessarily a bad thing)
this project can be done for less money. But the fred cook fuse panel has a level of fit and finish that you will probably not be able to reproduce. The machining of the aluminum panel is excellent and the rubber cover is form fitting. Quality work all the way.
I believe there is a real opportunity to use FLAG (right angle) connectors. I did not do it , but cramming the wires into the fuse/relay panel after coming straight up from the fuses in not my favorite approach. insulated flag connectors will not fit into the fuse panel.
Ask fred to add one extra male connector to the 20,19,18,17 and the 13,14,15 jumpers even if you have to pay for it.taking all those wires and getting them to fit on just two points on each of those jumpers is a real super pain that an extra attachment point on each one would of help to alleviate
Like fred says, take meticulous records, what fuse you take what wires off of, what colors the wires are(you will get these wrong) Your records can save you when you screw up.
Attach all the top connections to the ato fuse panel while it is not attached to the fuse/relay panel. then remove the main fuse/relay panel and use the access to the back to pull the wires through in an orderly manner rather then cramming them in through the front. then screw the fuse panel to the main fuse/relay panel, screw the main fuse/relay panel to the car and complete the lower connections
clean the relay plugs on the relays and on the plugs or the whole job is done half way.
getting the crappy VW fuse panel out of my Baby has changed how I look at the electrical system of the Porsche. this may be because so much of the scary mystery of what is going on is gone (the corrosion and loose rivets was significant).

Good Luck!!

Good write up................

Al,

Sounds like you did a jam up job replacing your fuse panel. I will take under consideration your suggestion for adding a lead on the 3 fuse and 4 fuse jumpers. How about a picture of the finished project?

I did as Al suggested and made my own "pig tails".

One other pro tip is to get a mirror on a stick. I found it very easy on the bottom female to male connectors to miss the male and think I had a solid connection. Using the mirror allowed me to get it lined up correctly before seating it.

I also highly recommend investing in a good pair of crimpers. The cheapos at the FLAPS and places like that are junk and you do not want a bad crimp.

Another thing I did in some instances was to peel back a little extra insulation and then "fold" the copper wire in half before inserting in the new spade connector. This gave the crimper more "bite", particularly on some of the very thin wires (I forgot which gauge they are - 18 or 20 - something like that).

I would be glad to build a fuse panel for your car. I will need to know the year and model (911 or 930). The standard panel with 24 fuse positions is $275 and the deluxe panel with 24 fuse positions and headlight relays is $350. Prices include shipping and insurance to any US zip code address. Shipping outside of the US is more, usually about $35-$40 more. Thanks for the interest!

Al,

I have tried to send this 3 times but it was rejected each time. Do you have an alternate email that I can use?

Fred, you read my mind. I have been wanting to replace my old ceramic fuse panel with an updated version. I have deleted several items (sunroof, cruise, A.C.,) but I have not been able to delete the fuses. Also will the original fuse cover fit?
