engine lid latch

How do you know your engine lid latch is completely worn out other than the obvious that the lid won't stay shut. I've adjusted mine every way and it still pops open over a bump.

It needs to be centered. right before it catches insure it is centered.

Also make sure it it unscrewed long enough ot the rubber stops are not too far out all these factors play in the proper latching of the lid.

A pic would help too. Both latch and receiver.

Also when you pull the lever, is it easy or tight/binding?

I centered the top portion of the latch and lengthened it as well and it seems to hold now. Before the engine lid would pop open just backing out of the drive way.

In my case, it feels quite tight when I pull on the lever... is this likely to be just a lube problem? If so, where should the lube go?
