"OH Oh" I just got the New Green Cable / wire today. Ken911, You KNEW what I was going to run into!
My car does not have a Plug at both ends of the cable. I have a plug in the Distributor with a wire that wraps around the Plastic Fan Outlet into a wrapped set of Wires. It looks like I will have to take ALL of the wraping apart and see exactly where the wires all go. Hopefully I will find where 2 wires terminate into the 6 prong plug (For the CDI Unit) and can then cut these wires so that I can install 2 small Female Gold Terminal ends that I can push onto the white Plug on the end of the Green wire. My Guess is that one of the wires will be Brown for a ground (31d) and the other wire that goes to the 6 prong plug terminal (7). When I was looking this (Wiring a MSD There was a Diagram of everything laid out that was Perfect! For the life of me I now cannot find it! It had Bob's Pic of the connector and a few others and it was a 100% help. ALso thanks to Bob in Ohio. Today I also got the DIst Coil delivered! If I do not need it, it will be a permanent resident of the Glove Box in the car. |
blue MSD is marine
I haven't tested it underwater but water spray from seals etc no problem on a boat. I could mount this thing anywhere away from heat |

I did not even know that there was a "Marine" Application but it makes sense!

The simple solution would have been to buy a used Bosch CDI
from the forum or eBay. |

Also with the stock plug being used and the Permatune still in place, I now have "2" Sources of Ignition if one ever fails! The Weather is nice today (Under a Zillion degrees and Humidity) so I hope a few hours I can get the wiring cleaned and apart to hook up the new green wire tonight and see if I cannot get Spark and the engine running. I have another project to get to ASAP Install my EZ Steer Electric Power Steering Unit :D:D |
Tonight Per someone's suggestion, I pulled the Dist and took thr wiring harness apart. my 1982 - 911 Has 1 long green wire all the way to the 6 prong plug. When I tested the wire, I found No resistance on the Green wire BUT The Ground Wire would sometimes read 0 and other times read all over the place.
Thank you ( As Usual ) John Walker! Now to get the Female plug ends and rewire. The Dist was another story. Once I got it apart, I found that the coil read just like Bob's .580 Ohms resistance. Saying that, the weights were Rusty and did not work correctly. After spraying Brake Cleaner, WD40 and PB Blaster I got it cleaned out and the Weights now swing out. The Dist is back in the car and Hopefully I will get the wires straight and it started tomorrow night. |
The Finish of this Thread is on the New thread New Green WIre installed and Still No SPark.
It turns out that it was the Bad Green wire that started all of this but the MSD Problem was ALL ME!! I needed a Red and a Orange wire so I put Black tape on the 2nd red wire I was going to use as the Orange wire. When the Red light did not come on the MSD, It was suggested that I remove everything and hook directly to the battery. I did this and still no Light on the MSD. Then when I tried it for the second time, something sparked and the red light came on for a second. It turns out that I put the Black tape on the WRONG Red Wire. I have not used Shrink Wrap on the Coil wire and the car started up Immediately. Also because of Ken's Suggestion to remove the Dist and me cleanning it, I had to retart the timing about 5 times to get rid of the knocking. I have learned a LOT!! and thank you to everyone! I am "On the Road Again" |
