Question Ceramic Brake Pads for 3.2, Anyone Try it?

Thinking of trying the PBR Ceramic pads. Has anyone tried ceramics for there 3.2 or earlier car?

https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=ATMD672C_0257481495&An=599001+101985+50062+2062003

Price ain't bad close to Textars which I have, performs great but I am really hating the brake squeels on lite braking, dusts like crazy. I had the Mintex, low dust & never squeeled but not so great at D.E. events.

If I do swap, may put the Textars back for D.E.s but just wondering or do I need to be the guinee pig here?

TIA,

Jim

The ULT ceramics are very good, don't wear the rotors too bad, don't squeal, but throw out a LOT of dust. I've sort of gotten used to them.

I can handle the dust, hell can't be worse than the Textars, right?

Is your ULT Ceramics the same as the PBR Ceramics?

Yup, PBR makes the ULT, or Ultimate Ceramic pads. They also say Centric on them. Somewhere I have a pic of the box they came in. I'll dig it up tomorrow and post it.

I had PBR delux (not ceramic) before and I love it. I would use it again if there's one for our 911.

I recently got autozone ceramic for my minivan and I don't really like it. Quiet, stoping power is ok if you are slowing down. If you are really "braking", it's not ok. There is a thin layer of rubber like backing, for noise I guess. This layer make your pedal feels so soft. Kind of like your rubber lines are expanding. Do I want to spend time on metal lines for my minivan? No.

Dust, not sure how much dust ceramic produces, because I almost never pay attention to this area of the van. Once I had one of the pad, famous but forgot name, that produced too much hot dust that killed the surface of my wheels in less than a year. I could see a thick layer of dust every time I drove the car. So, you do wnat to concern about dust.

another thought, if it has the rubber like thin piece there, you can just pill it off.

Draco,
I think I will start tomorrow night, in order:
- metal brake lines.
- rebuild caliper
- door wiring short
- replace the rear piece of convertible top, head liner. Can you help me on this step? I have never done this. so I think I need opinions while working on it, and break, BS, and "enjoy" it.

This is going to be confusing.

Here are the ceramic PBR pads. They go under the brand "Axxis" "Centric" or "PBR". To make matters even worse, the box says "Bendix" on the side. In any case, it's all the same company. The brake pad sensor is a Centric sensor. I like them, and will probably keep using them next pad change, but the do throw out a lot of dust.

Oops my bad, it is thru my account.

Thanks Doc Russ

I have been doing a bit more research and found the EBC "Red Stuff" Ceramic Brakes. Pricey SOB's at $89 & $79, Dang. For dusty quieter brakes, hmmmm.

Oh well at least I won't be embarrased when I come to a stop and looks of freakin "Jelopy" POS Heck I like cleaning my wheels, plus I have the hi temp wheel wax I got from AAA speedway POC event, I love it, cleans so easily

Funny the print out quote I received today states "REDSTUFF LOW DUST - CARRERA" :-P

I will post my findings soon.

Jim

You can always get the BHP pads for .....not much $156.00.

I thought the ceramics were going to be the last pads that I would buy for these brakes. I was hoping to get the RSR brakes from Zuffenhaus. But I think now I'll save that as a reward to mark some big accomplishment.

Well, just off the phone with EBC, imbeciles, they claim OEM spec but stated pads for my year are not made with a notch or even a hole for the sensor. Low Dust my ARSE. If I mod to accept the wire insert it will void the warranty

So back to the PBR's.

Jim
