How to pickle MFI pump?
I have an MFI pump that has been sitting for about 40 years. I would like to properly clean it out and put into long term storage. Anybody have any suggestions on how to clean it out and how to properly store it?
Thanks, BK

There are threads somewhere on the topic but in reality, unless you are going to use the MFI Pump soon, why bother? After all, whatever problems you are going to have, they are already in place. You will need to address them when you need to put the unit into service.

I kinda thought that too, but also thought about not making it worse. I think I will clean it all out with carb cleaner, let it dry, fill with oil, then plug.

Thanks guys.
I pulled off a few of the covers to take a peek. I am no expert, but everything looks ok to me. Everything appeared to work properly. These pics were taken before cleaning. I do not see any need to clean anything. Any pointers on exactly what and how to inspect? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Your pictures indicate a very clean pump inside. As long as the main control rack springs back after being gently pushed in and all six plungers are moving up and down I think your in good shape. IMHO I would add a 3/4 gt. mixture of half & half 10 W oil and Marvel Mystery Oil into the pump for storage. Cap off the 6 delivery ports on top, the 2 fuel line banjo's and the side cover oil outlet and the 2 thermostat ports. Also I would lightly brush on some Marvel Mystery oil to the body of the pump to help keep the magnesium from starting any surface corrosion. Put it into a 3 gallon ZipLoc bag and it's ready for storage.
