Will 225/45/17 fit in front?

I'm currently running 215/50/17 on the front with rolled fenders. I'm in the process of upgrading my suspension and will be re-shooeing the car as well. I'm wondering if anyone is running the wider size up front?

225/45-17 is the typical choice for people looking to go wider in the front. You're on the right track with rolled fender lips. Rolled lips and more/max negative camber is key for clearance.

Some people actually run 235/40-17 in front on a car with std. front flares. Key is to make sure your wheels are an offset that pushes the wheel as close to the inboard side as possible. +30mm is a good target for a 8 in. wheel. Many people who run 225, 235, 245 width tires in front will also remove the metal shock absorber cover, or replace with a rubber accordion boot type, to clear the strut.

On my 79 911 with rolled fender wells I run these:
Front 225-45-ZR 17
R 255-40-ZR 17
Never had any troubles.

An informed answer cannot be provided w/o knowing the o/s and width of the wheels used, ride height and suspension setup are secondary concerns and would be necesary to know in extreme cases

I am somewhat ignorant on offset spacing so bear with me if the following provides no information: There are no spacers on the hubs. I believe the front wheels are 7", given the rears are 8". Wheels and rolled fenders are courtesy of the PO.

I would like to replace the fronts with the size I currently have, 215/50/17 since that has worked well so far. Unfortunately the tires I am looking at don't appear to come in that size but are available in 225/45/17; Bridgestone PSS-04 as featured in an earlier post.

again you need to provide the ET of the wheel

as the ET goes down the wheel faces move further outboard, 7 ETxx w/ 215/yy x zz may fit fine but the extra width of a 225 could interfere.

stock 911 front fitment w/ Fuchs was 7x15 ET23.3 w/ 205/50 or 205/55 x15 tires, no issues

many users have put 7x16 ET23.3 w/ 205/55 x16 tires and found it to be tight r even too tight at the lips

on the other hand an 8 17 or 18 w/ 235 or even 245 can be fitted if the ET is right

look closely at the wheels ET is often a 2 digit # near the valve stem or on the back of the wheel somewhere

You are looking for something like ET23 or ET25

No ET

Bill,

Again, my knowledge is limited; I'm not familiar with what ET relates to, but I'm willing to learn.

There are no markings on my wheels similar to your example. I've tried to find out years ago what wheel I have but no one was able to identify it. I've run into a couple guys who've had the same wheels on their cars, but like me, they acquired them with the car. They're a knock off of the 1993 Turbo I believe. Japanese made. Good quality. I weighed a rear wheel only (no rubber) and it was 18-19 lbs. I like them, but they are showing their age.

Below are the markings on the back of each of the five spokes. No other markings to be found. Not sure if anything can be deduced from these.

Henri - I believe your offset is in this picture. It looks like it is Et10. FWIW, I just bought a set of 17x8s and 17x9s of the same rims last week.

Henri,

Shoot me an email or drop by with a front and rear and I can measure them for you and give you some thoughts about what will or will not fit...

New address, so don't swing by the old place

Cheers

Who makes the wheels? Looks like a copy of the 964 Turbo 3.6 Speedline Aliseo wheels (those where 18 in. I believe).
