3.2 engine rebuild question

I have a question regarding a 1985 Porsche 911 I am looking to buy. The question is the car has about 245000 miles on it. It has been well maintained by all owners to include the top end rebuild as well as trans work suspension work and all of the little problem things associated replaced. The car was originally located in CA and I was able to speak with the mechanic who rebuilt the top end for verification. The car currently is in great condition. Question is with all those miles should I be concerned about the lower half of the engine needing a rebuild in the near future. Currently the engine runs strong with no noticeable issues. The selling price is 18500 which I think is to high. Any help would be appreciated.

Keep looking, at that price you could do way better on the miles or pay half the money. Looks like the owner wants it both ways.
Remember with that miles, everything has that amount of miles on it not just the engine.

way high for a 245K 1985 Carrera - I'd expect that car to be in the low teens - and then only if everything else is in great condition.

The way I read your post is there are two questions, price and engine longevity. The price does seem out of line with a car with that many miles, even with a recent quality top end rebuild. The engine is a great design which often achieves huge miles on the bottom end before needing attention. That being said, how are you intending to use the car? I don't think I would consider even a $10k car (at 245K miles) for a daily driver ( even though I have met one Pelican from Seattle who drives his 300K Carrera as a daily driver), as Bruce says the suspension, electronics, brake lines, etc, potentially ALL have 245K on them. Good luck, they're great cars.

I use my '86 as a daily driver. Did 200 miles on LA freeways yesterday! It has 230k on it (paid $12.5 for it 5 years ago with 187k on the clock).

I think the bottom ends are pretty durable on these cars. Also, the mileage doesn't mean that much if parts have been replaced or repaired ( e.g., new starter motor, alternator) and the car has been regularly serviced.

Having said that, I agree that the price is on the high side for the mileage.

<$10K is what I would pay, or I walk.
