Great work Dennis and beautiful car! I really like the black/red combo, that really works well!
|
Thanks, Spent the evening tonight taking it out for a ride to get good and warm, then dropped the oil for the +500 mile oil and filter change and valve adjust after having it apart.
|
Poor and Leaky pop off valve design on my Stainless Webb Design airbox.
This outta fix it! High Temp Silicone the original plate down and JB weld the pop off in. Even used Stainless bolts... Tested for vacuum and pressure, and it seals great. Looks kinda funky too!:) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333159939.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333159963.jpg |
Update:
After fiddling around with a couple of used airbox swaps and thorough component testing including leak testing, it looks like this finally did the trick, Heinz is starting and running great. I lowered my cold start pressure to 1.5 bar, and adjusted my richness using the no meter method as posted here on the forum. (I will use an analyzer to fine tune it soon) My wife actually complemented me on the way it just starts right up and drives now! :) Airbox leaks discovered when testing, tiny bubbles = crappy running engine... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334639088.jpg |

Thanks for the update. Pretty hard in my experience to get a spouse to notice that sort of thing in my experience....
|
Well, it's a better situation than what she was saying to me a few months ago in post 44 when it started the air filter on fire!:)
"Why won't it start again? Honey, do you smell smoke? What's happening?"... |

The Gunson tester is just what the Doctor ordered!
I had used the "without a meter"adjustment methods described in various threads and had it running well and it felt pretty good. I was at 3% CO on my ROW car that should be closer to 5% as per all reading on the subject has indicated. I bumped it up to about 4.8% and runs better. Idles smooth and has more power through all rpms. Definitely worth the $50 I paid for it from an ad in the classsifieds. |
$50 - that was a score. I've never seen one for less than a couple hundred dollars.
You should rent it out and make a mint - ha. Sounds like the more fine grained tuning was just the ticket. So what is next? |
Alignment, corner balancing, turbo tie rods. Not necessarily in that order!
Other than that, Drive, drive, drive... |

I replaced my leaking oil line thermostat, pulled the long oil lines and repaired the flat spots from mis-placed jacks over the years and then installed a Mocal oil cooler to replace the trombone all on Friday night. |
Any tips on fitting the cooler?
|
Lots of patience, hook up lines first, then drill holes and mount. Seems flimsy with the supplied brackets, but is in there solid.
|
Wonder what I'm planning to do with this?
Need a few more bitz and pieces yet....:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340254188.jpg |
Dennis - How did you get so good? You have a great looking car(I am partial to red interiors), and it is mechanically excellent. Please keep us all posted as to further enhancements/mods.
|
Ok guys, this thing keeps growing, What am I going to do with it?:D

Dennis,
Just read your thread, you did a great job and I hope I can do the same. I do tend to cut corners so I will try to take your advice, but as you know, with a Porsche a cut corner can sometimes save you a huge amount of money (if only temporarily). I am trying to take my time, I spent most of yesterday putting in the new head studs, and looking for the oil thermostat that seems to be one of the missing items the PO neglected to tell me about. Today I hope to fit the rings while the gudgeon pins are cooling in the freezer. David |
