What gauge wire do you have going from alternator to the starter for battery charge?
Looks huge! |

And at least twice or even 3 times as large as the original one in the engine harness. |
As usual...nice work Dennis.

Avoided the car for a while today. Celebrating making it another year... 😉
Finished up mounting the condenser ,the dryer and the compressor units. Ran all the hoses to them and then up to the blower box area for terminating once I get the blower situated. Likely tomorrow. I’m done for today. Wheel well and smuggler’s box photos. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1622952093.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1622952093.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1622952093.jpg |

Still have to wire up this new system yet and install a new engine harness along with the new alternator. I have the fan and housing in the ultrasonic right now. The PMO’s are going to have to wait until this system is up and running... |
slow is fast......
did i see a reference to a birthday earlier? Happy B'day Dennis. regards, al |

Lol, Slow is careful and reduces do overs and f-ups.. also seems to be my main speed nowadays. Thanks for the B-Day wishes. Made it through another one.... :D |
Great work, Dennis.
I’m embarking on a new project that will include the Classic Retrofit A/C so your thread is timely. Cheers, Johan |
Well, the front half of the car is done!
When I read the install manual and it said it took 4-6 hours I thought sounds good. Johnny made a typo by adding the to between the 4 and the 6.... ;) I need to drop the engine and do the harness and other bits and pieces yet. Still need to charge it and test. Might be a while as my time off work is over. Here is a photo of the final installation all wiring etc done. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623037409.jpg |

Looks great, Dennis! I am seriously considering doing the same AC install , especially since there are 3 kids in my 911 regularly. |
Decided I didn’t like seeing the red cable from battery running to the smugglers box.
(Sometimes it’s the little things…) Sheathed it in vinyl. Looks better to me. :) Before: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623526085.jpg After: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623525999.jpg |
Well, decided it was time to get busy on the other end of the car…
Out with the very reliable Bitz kit EFI after almost 10 years, and time for the PMO EFI to go in. What am I getting myself into? :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623526784.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623526885.jpg |
oh! oh!....now you've done it.....
|
Nice!!! Mine was in pretty rough shape, but after a year, I've got most of it under control. If I do paint next year, it'll be perfect!
|
New 185 amp alternator for the electric A/C is installed. Along with a new engine harness.
Now I have to go through all the Megasquirt ECU wiring spaghetti and make it nice and neat. At least I can reuse the old MS1 ECU harness for the MS2 unit. Unless I decide to go to COP’s at some point, then I’ll have to drop the engine for the crank pulley and to pull in a new harness with more wires in it… Just have to track all the color changes in the harness from the Bitz harness to the DIY Autotune unit. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623541109.jpg |

Need more time off work. |
I would have done the exact same thing to that red wire, looks correct now. Has it really been 10 years on that Bitz kit?! Man, time is flying.

I forgot how much fun double nutting and removing old studs was.
Installing the new ones was a piece of cake in comparison. I only had one cylinder that the shroud needed trimming for the new gaskets and spacers to fit. Exacting blade trimmed it nicely the 2mm or so it needed on one side. Test fit of the PMO’s in the picture below. Still have all the linkage and everything else to install to make them work. But they sure look nice in there. Horns will be gone and rain hats will go on. (I’m in Oregon after all…) Side note: I did Scotchbrite and wire brush the fan and housing, then treated with Gibb’s oil. Worked well, should last a long time, it has been 10 years since I last cleaned it and it wasn’t looking bad at all. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1623607077.jpg |
After a mini vacation with the family, I was able to spend a few hours on the PMO installation. Have to thank Al Kosmal for the tip on a mounting perch for the throttle springs on each side. (Drill hole in rain hat base, install cotter pin) I was assuming there would be a provision for it.
Finished hooking up the engine harness to the starter and reverse switch. Re-installed the coil, installed the vacuum lines to the collector, installed the power brake line with check valve. Wired up a Bosch relay for the fuel pump logic swap. Added a new ground strap to the rear fuse panel. Still have the fuel lines to make up. Then install the new ECU and start doing the settings after I get around to wiring it all up. Likely need to do some linkage adjustments, and I’ll be close to firing it up. :D Then I’ll get back to finishing the A/C by charging it up with R134a… Have to ask myself why both systems at the same time… just Crazy I guess..
