Your Tach adapter arrived today. Thanks, your generosity is greatly appreciated. All I need now is my new intake gaskets and then I'll mount everything, pop the drivetrain back in the car and fire it up. :) |
Definition of frustration... Having a lightly used set of manifold gaskets beside you while you wait for new ones to be delivered... UPS will have them here on the 28th....
You would not believe how much I'm fighting using some sealant on the old ones.... (Bad idea) :( Guess it's next weekend for the install. Time to spend X-mas eve and all day tomorrow with the family anyways. :) Merry Christmas!:D |
Gaskets arrived, Here are some pics of everything installed before I put the drivetrain back in.

|
Installed and running.:D
Seems pretty darn good to start, some tuning and it should be great.;) Here's a few pics of the final install: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356897655.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356897682.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356897711.jpg |

BITZ KIT:
Took my car out for a drive today using the autotune feature in Tunerstudio. I'm impressed, I can feel more power in every gear and rpm range. Runs smooth and drives very nice. Just need to tweak my cold start settings a little and I'll be good to go. OIL LEAKS/ROCKER SHAFTS: Not a drop of oil leaking or any burning oil smell from my HE's while driving. Yahoo! The new rocker shaft parts and higher torque values seem to have worked. Car is running smooth and quiet. REAR SUSPENSION: Replaced the shocks, Swaybar bushings and the drop links. Much noticed improvement. I can only hope I haven't jinxed myself by posting my happiness... :) Now it's time for the front end... |
Great progress Dennis!

Someone once told me is that they are all $20,000 cars you just choose how/when to pay. Ha. |
Been fne tuning the Bitz kit and Megasquirt. Heinz is sarting well and driving great. I have been using Tunerstudio and autotuning with various maps. I think I've got it nailed pretty good now and I'm going to just drive it for a while before I do the front end. Sure seems to have a lot more power now.
I installed new Magnecor wires, a new cap, rotor and finally installed a new Dizzy dust cover.(missing since I bought the car) Looks nice and seems to run even better! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1359610239.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1359610261.jpg |
So is she up and running as a driver then Dennis?
|
Dennis.. I enjoy reading this thread. I read where you stayed with the Boges and I am thinking of the same for my weekend ride. I am not sure an additional $350 is worth the Bilstein jump other than lifetime warranty. How do the new Boges seem so far?
Bill |
Up and running great tdskip.
Boges feel great in the back, still need to redo the front end soon. |

No, I just used acrylic enamel for paint. Medium Reducer and a high gloss hardener.
Nason Ful-Cryl II Porsche code 700 Brilliant Black. I think it was under $30 for a pint. (Plus the reducer and hardener) Picked it up at my local Car Quest. My car will eventually get a full re-spray so this paint will last until then. I also used the same stuff to paint and blend 3 different panels with dents that I fixed on my car. Single stage black paint is nice for doing that. (Blends well after buffing and polishing it in) |
Dash repair
My car curently sports a stylish Black Plastic Dash Cap...
When I bought the car the dash was beyond repair due to the leather skin drying out and warping it. The Leather was already removed. I had to shave and cut what remained, just to get the dash cap that came with the car to fit. It looks "OK" but I'm going to go back to a vinyl dash. So I picked up a used dash wih multiple cracks, but not warped, for a good price and I'm curently prepping it for new vinyl. Here's a picture of one of the cracks, there are 6 or 7 places needng "adjustment/repair": http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360539047.jpg Here is a picture of how I am prepping the cracks for repair: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360539133.jpg And here is a picture of the repair I'm making to the cracks. I'm using an expanding foam sealant used for small cracks to fill the voids. Once the foam begins to set up I knock it down to remove the larger air bubbles a couple of times while it sets. This makes for an almost solid fill as this picture shows after cutting and shaping it to be level.: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360539348.jpg I found some quality 4 way stretch vinyl on line for a decent price here: AllSport "Black" I'll be picking up some spray adhesive for the vinyl and I have some bumper repair compound on the way. So if it works, I should be able to restore this dash for under $100. My main motivation to do this myself was the $1200 plus shipping quote from Just Dashes to repair my Dash. Yeah, I'm cheap... ;) |
Here's a few while it's setting pictures. Been knocked down twice, now I'll let them crust over for an hour or so, then slice them every centimeter along their length and push them down while the center is still soft.
Sounds weird but it worked well on the first one. Ii guess the right type of foam would be ideal, but this one was on my shelf... Good Stuff Gaps and Cracks filler is what I'm using. It's a little too bubbly, that's why it needs to be knocked down. Looks ugly, but it'll clean up nice....;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360543937.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360543956.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360543976.jpg |
Nice! I hated my cheap-o plastic dash cap so badly that I took it off in favor of the fairly decent stock dash (vinyl) with only a couple splits in it. Will have to try and follow your footsteps and fix it up after all the other little projects are taken care of.
