It's alive!

After two years of sitting my 1989 911 is alive! Albeit not as it should, but it is running. I'm planning to do a nearly full stock restoration on it. It only has 21k miles on it so the interior is very nice except for the missing switches and what not. Right now here's my to do list, and I need a little help figuring how to tackle some of the things.
Right now one my major problems is fuel my fuel pump isn't pumping unless I force the relay (connect the fuel pump pin to the power with a paper clip then putting it in the car). Secondly the fuel wasn't mixing so it wasn't firing I figured out the problem, but I have no idea on how to go about repairing it. This wire was the reason it wasn't mixing properly (I think)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (click to make it larger)
It's to the left of the engine bay near the fuel filter

Third I have a few wires that are simply unplugged and have no where to plug into I'll get you pictures of all these in a little bit.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats Brother!

That is the #3 Cylinder Temperatur Head Sensor for Hot Starts. The Male receptical seems to be damaged, Damn. Well as long as it still makes contact that is good.

The metal holder supposed to have a retain clip the length of the mount to hold the connectors in place.

Jim

The culprit to my fuel pump issue seems to be the alarm system. Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the alarm system? Mitchells doesn't have it.

Do you have a back up DME Relay, it is under the driver seat. That, if faulty will effect the Fuel Pump.

DME relay is good tested multiple times we can jump the power pin to the fuel pump pin and it'll start going. Once it started it was throwing clouds like crazy from the exhaust like a stream of pure white smoke. Had to turn it off because I didn't want the DME to get hot from the jumper..

White/Grey Smoke? Did you add a stabilizer for the gas since it has been sitting? That could be moisture in the gasoline.

I will try find the diagram and post for you.

Is the fuel pump relay (the red one in the fuse panel) OK? Just a thought. I've read recently of problems with the diode going bad/frying.

All my relays in my fuse panel are red o.o. I thought that was weird when I first opened it up. Ya the smoke is white/grey I'm thinking of just bleeding out the tank and filling it with fresh 93 octane.

So, what have you learned from your postings here; 911 3.2 No-Start Troubleshooting,
that would be helpful for others with similar problems?

Remember, this forum benefits the Porsche community by our helping
each other.

Congrats on getting it running!

I had a similar problem to you, when I first started a motor that had been sitting for a LONG time, it smoked like crazy! I just rolled the car down my driveway, set the brake, and let it run for about 15 minutes. As it warmed up, the smoke went away and never came back.

I suggest that before you worry too much about the smoke, get it up to operating temp. I would be shocked (and concerned) if it still smoked when warmed up.

Mine's been sitting for about 4 months now. When I start it up, I expect another impressive cloud of smoke.

This is only a comment about the smoke. I'm not saying anything about the safety of jumping a relay! That part's on you.

Draco any possible way of getting a scan?
We only jumped the relay to go through and figure out whats causing it not to get power normally no way I'm going to run it with that. Seems like the anti theft might be the culprit for the fuel pump. Would it be worth it bleeding out the tank and filling it with fresh gas? Right now I took all the major relays out of the car because a questionable fellow came by the shop asking about the car... Working on a 94 camaro that's in a similar situation...except when we turned it over the horn went off instead of the engine cranking....

"Draco any possible way of getting a scan?"

Seems like it might be time to spent some money with Pelican
Parts to buy a wiring diagram, since the forum provided help
in getting the car started, right?

Oh I'm about to do a large part order from pelican. I have mitchells, but they lacked any of the diagrams for the anti-theft system. If you guys need any scans from mitchells no problem :P
I'm still getting use to pelican's layout, is there any all inclusive faq someone could link me to?
