Unhappy Idle speed too high CIS

My engine is in. I had a faulty fuel line fixed. But my idle speed is too high. I have set the idle speed screw fully clockwise, the screw that is under the throtle lever is set to the lowest point. I DO NOT have the linkage hooked up, so it is not a linkage sticking. The only thing I can think of doing is messing with the mixture, but I do not have a exhaust analyzer or anything. Is there a "safe" way to mess with the mixture until I can get to an exhaust analyzer?

The car is still on jack stands (rear) and the air filter and cover are off, would that make a diff?

I don't have the exact RPM as my Tach is not wrking either

Any ideas, Bill you are the CIS guru what do you think

Shawn

Hi Shawn, I'm not the Bill you were talking about but my suggestion is get it all back together and go for a reasonable drive before you start to alter anything. Especially if it was going ok before the work started.

Have you messed with the timing lately? If you have it advanced too far, it will cause the idle to go up.

The only way to set the mixture on your car is with a gas analyzer. Without it you're just shooting in the dark.

Check that the hoses to and from the aux air valve and aux air regulator are on securely. Check to see if the aux air regulator is closed.

Don't mess with the mixture. You can't get a too high idle with an incorrect mixture.

Shawn,
I really think you should put it all together, drive, then see if it is still idles high. It might settle down after some use. Probably an air leak somewhere, I think....

Thanks everyone I will do just that, when I get a chance. Since I am now a brand new DAD. I love saying that
