954 Project... The beginning
Hello all.
The slippery slope begins. I have a '84 Carrera Targa that has been in the family for about the last 10-11 years. I have owned it for about the last three. It has 117k miles and is mostly stock. I have Turbo rear torsion bars and Bilstein HD's on all four corners. Other than that I have done nothing to it, besides the obligatory turbo tie-rods, weltmeister strut brace, lowered a bit, etc. My plan is to do some sort of "954" project. Ive talked about doing this project for YEASR now but never got around to either doing anything or putting any money into and buying some "required" pieces. Its my 3rd car so having it off the road is not going to be that big of a deal. I dont plan on doing a replica by any means. I just want to strip some weight and make it an aggressive track car. I just ordered the TRE front bumper. Very nice product. I have also ordered some new seats. Nothing nice but it will serve its purpose while I drive it around town. Ill be saving up for some Sparcos or Recaros before I head out on the track. I do have one favor to ask of you all, though. The color is Ruby red... I was thinking of painting the TRE bumper a flat black and painting the rear flat black as well. Anyone who is good with photoshop want to play around with color schemes for me? ![]() Ill keep everyone updated on the project as I get things done. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think it's sweet just the way it is... Seats are nice but not the spoiler.

Heres some very opinionated feedback, feel free to disregard. If it were my car (and I had a targa for many years), I would:
* Absolutely use those seats, nice choice * That bumper, while really functional, is not my first choice. I would go with a fg bumper with no integrated spoiler and attach a separate splitter to it instead, better flow to the Targa body. * I would however bite the bullet and color match it RubyRed, flatblack will look rough * Id route those brake coolers to backing plates on the front rotors * Harness bar instead of bolt-in roll bar, arguably safer actually. Full welded cage if you can, but harness bar otherwise. 4points too. * Sell that whale-tail and go with a duck, it will really improve the lines of the car and its nearly as efficient * Leave the rockers on. I experimented time and time again with taking mine off and its just not a good look on the targa body IMO Sounds like its in pretty good shape to track right as is, but with those seats, some good belts, and the brake cooling you'll be good to go. The rest is mostly aesthetics and seat-time. Above all, have fun with it, Targas are a blast.

Got the seats installed today. Took a little longer than I though as I had to "massage" the seat rail a bit to fit the factory mounting points.
Took it out for a nice drive and boy do they feel nice! Ill have the stock seats for sale soon if anyone is interested. Going to start taking some of the interior out, ie. carpet, rear seats, etc. Next week Im going to tackle the front end and will post more pics as I progress. -Joe ![]()
