transmission drain plug location

Have a 1988 911 cabriolet. Have the 101 projects book but still cannot locate the transmission drain or fill plug. Can someone help me out? Is this something I can do or do I need a lift?. Thanks to all

Drain is @ bottom center of the tranny.

Fill is on the drivers side about 1/2 way up the tranny case.

You need a big allen wrench for both. Make sure you can break the fill plug loose before you take out the bottom drain plug.

Only if you've moved the engine & tranny to the front.

Actually, you need to jack up the car, unless you are skinny enough to slide under. Also, be sure to remove the fill plug first - this is just precautionary because if you drain the fluid and then acidently strip the filler plug - you're screwed as you will have an empty trans with no way to fill back up.

as noted you need to jack the car up > I would think all 4 wheels med/high off the ground / drivers side rear wheel off / I htink the hex /allen size is either 17 or 19mm // make sure you can remove BOTH the drain and fill plugs before you dump the lube / to re-fill squeeze in the new lube till it flows out the fill hole [ergo car is level so you get correct amount of lube in the tranny]

a messy job - have lot of rags handy

Did mine in my '87 Carrera this past weekend for the first time. The plugs are a little "obscure" at first glance. Took me a few minutes to find them. They look like big fat washers with an Allen head depression in the middle. Mine were filled with road crud too which didn't help.

You will need a pump of some sort to get it in the filler hole. And you will make a mess and smell like gear lube for a day or two afterwards. Very messy but easy enough to do yourself.
