adding RH rearview mirror to early 911 targa

How would one go about adding a rearview mirror to the passenger side of an early 1977 911 targa? My car, apparently, came with just the driver's side mirror but modern eight-lane highways -- and force of habit -- demand I add one on the RH side. Thanks.

Are they electric? If so, I have no clue how you'd want to deal with the wiring mess you'll be contending with. Otherwise, measure and install
Note though, they're in different places along each door. You may want to follow this procedure.

Have someone with a year car that has both measure the exact placing of the RH mirror (and left for comparison) and take a picture for you (I can do this if you want, since it's unlikely this changed from 77 to 84).
Then mark off, drill, screw in and install.

Where do you get the spare mirror though? That sounds like one of those grossly-more-expensive-than-they-should-be items, but I don't know.

One picture is with metric measurements and the other is for us American fractional dummies.

WJG2,

Here is a link to an earlier question about adding a mirror.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61490&highlight=mirror

Maybe it will give you more insight as to what is involved. Glad to see at least someone has all of the pages in their manuals (team5150). Good luck.

it's amazing how I discover the right way to do things around here. Will it never end?
And looking at those pics I can see how bloody complicated it appears to be! Good thing I'm not undertaking it. Thanks team5150.

I'm trying to locate a passenger side mirror for an earlier car, a '75 with the chrome flag style mirror. Does anyone know of a source for this item, or even if one was ever available?

Thanks
Marshall
