1983 911SC with Factory Hard top - Questions.

My friend has just found a 1983 911SC Cabriolet with a factory hard top! White exterior with black metal hardtop, glass windows & electric defroster on rear window.
I didn't even realise that Porsche made a hard top for 911s back then.
The entire folding top mechanism has been removed to install this - to the best of the current owner's knowledge, it came from the factory this way, originally delivered new to Japan in left hand drive.
The hard top has a "Porsche Genuine Part" sticker and number attached to it.
Does anyone know more about this option? What is a car like this worth? The owner is thinking of selling?
Any info appreciated.

I've never heard of or seen that myself.
1983 was the first year for the cabriolet, so I kind of doubt they would have made a hard top that same year. I would have to guess later modification of some sort. But others with more experience will respond.

The "Porsche genuine part" sticker is from the late 80s....your friend's car was customized! Lets see photos

Seems hardtops were available in limited quantities in the UK (and I think there was a recent thread here from someone who had purchased one).
I've heard that you must remove all of the cab top parts to fit the hardtop. Here's a current example for sale. Its an '89 model -- I dont know what years they were made, or how hard they are to retrofit back to '83.

1983 Hardtop

There were several hardtop options available for the SC and 3.2 cars:

1. The hardtop as per the above post. Option code # 550.
weight 73 pounds, cost US$2400, and the "stand alone" part,
which is no longer avaiable.

2. Also, the Targa non-folding hardtop.

Somewhere???, I have more detailed pics of an SC car with the top on/off
which I took at the Ludwigsburg show room.

Maybe 911kiwi will post a few.

Also, as per the above post, a retrofit would be a bit "intense".

Best,

Gerry

Thanks for the replies guys. Sheds some light on what appears to be a "not-so-common" option. Hoping that the owner has some documentation that might help. Taking a good look at the car tomorrow so will post pics soon.

Kiwi,

As per my previous post, here's the pic I was looking for.

Taken at the Ludwigsburg showroom (1986)

Cheers,

Gerry

I know this post is very old. However, there are Hardtops out there, I'm looking to purchase one, Porsche part 911-503-969-00.
Any leads greatly appreciated. Richard

Why not a Dmorris top?

Is it an originality or functionality search?
