Check Your Fuses ....
I had an odd electrical issue where my alternator light came on when I went into reverse, and when I used my turn signals. The gauges also went dead at the same time, bit not all the time, only occasionally.
Wierd Electrical Issue After I bit of searching I found the issue: A bad fuse contact face. And when I went to replace fuse #12 I barely touched fuse #13 and it fell out. Digging a bit deeper I found the spring tension on several of my fuses was completely gone. I had to remove the loose fuse, bend the spring tab up and re-insert the fuse. You can rotate the fuse with your finger, if it spins too easily then you need to make an adjustment and increase the tension.

First thing I did was to replace all the fuses and relays in my car and wire brush the contacts.
I notice that since I fixed the AC that fuse gets pretty hot. I'm going to look for a solution to that.

If you search there are some nice conversions to 'real fuses' using these (Or similar)

I replaced all but five of my front fuses this year. The kit I bought was short or something.
Yea, some of those tabs needed to be bent up just a tiny bit. Found a couple of fuses no where near the rating they should have been too. Time to do the rear panel, this post just reminded me.

Make it a part of your maintenance routine to simply rotate each fuse after doing an oil change. This will ensure the contacts are clean and that the fuse is properly seated in the holder.

I had a problem where the rivets on the back of the fuse panel that serve to connect the fuses together had slight corrosion. This was causing a slight resistance and the heat almost burned up the fuse block. I originally thought it was the fuses, but after replacing them with heaver fuses I realized it was the connections on the back of the fuse block causing the problem. I cleaned the rivet heads and ran a bead of solder over them to fix it.

I recently spent approximately 20 minutes by disconnecting the battery and using a small brass brush to clean every contact on every single fuse block, as well as the metal contact on each and every single fuse.
Now, everything is shining like a diamond in a goat's arse.

In the never-ending quest to find other things to spend money on (WRT the 911), has anyone converted the installed fuse block to the more modern blade fuse system? For some reason, this seems like a conversion that would mitigate some of the corrosion we see with these cars. Just wondering. . .

Holy Jesus. I just thought about this when reading this thread. Maybe I should spend more time on this site.

+1 to kidrock use small metal brush to get them good and shiny - steel wool will also do great but you got to catch all the debris. then make sure they have good tension.

You can clean the contact tabs with the eraser on the end of a pencil. Does a great job, just give it a spin.
