Here is another. I started to lose the light pretty quickly, so the time came to get busy packing

Normally, I am extremely organized about reducing possible risks. that is why this trip was such an adventure. I pulled the trigger at the last minute and decided to do it, without the weeks of advanced planning I became very resourceful getting there without advanced preparations.

The only tools I brought with me were ear plugs that I purchased along the way to the car. I didn't even pack a flashlight for the three hour drive through unpopulated areas, and, no plan B.

Crazy, I know but exhilarating

I tried for a picture of my best impression of Jack, since his build inspired me many many years ago. I failed. I wasn't able to stop grinning!

Just as I was about to pull away, we noticed the lights acting funny. Low beams dim, signals all screwy. That was about 8pm.
They had been working 2 months earlier.

By 10 pm I was on my way (or was it 11? All I know was that I was considering if the new pole position seats really would make a good place to sleep???

In any event, I was on my way on my first ever drive. The only road test was Mike's 5 minute run to the gas station.
I would have chickened out but for no pan B.

I pulled in for a coffee after a short run to check everything, and then a few hours of driving later, I stopped one more time for gas, just in case the gauge could not be trusted.

This time of night there were very few people around, and of those that were there, certainly nobody wondered if I was on my way to the dump anymore

I arrived home safely around 3AM. The trip was uneventful until that time, when my neighbour's kid came tearing across the street to greet me. We stood outside for an hour looking at the car and talking about it. Inspecting it under the light of the Mike's borrowed flashlight that Mike insisted I take with me.

The next day others came to look a the car and a few did nothing but complain about the missing pieces yet to be installed, or the nerve of the shop not to clean it up. I WAS the shop. Not one person noticed the things that I spent countless hours perfecting, except for the kid from across the street wowing about the straightness of the panels under the darkness of night. I think I will take him for his first ride in a 911 once I get it sorted.

I hope the joy of driving it equals or exceeds the joy of building it. Enjoy it in good health.

Very cool. Congratulations. I find that any time I get my 911 out, people point out the problems with it instead of the nice things about it. Jealousy.

I'm glad you are tall. I on the other hand am fortunate to be the prototypical Recaro Pole Position sized guy.

When you described the Alcantera centres as grey (which is technically correct), I thought to myself that I guess that will have to do. When the grey was really light black just like my dash, I knew that they were meant for the car!

Now that it is home the cleanup and final assembly can begin.

I'll be back. I have many people to thank for keeping me motivated when I needed it .

Meanwhile, some pics of how it currently sits, waiting for me to get rid of those horrid yellow plates that came with the car, and take away form the beautiful Recaro mounts.

Yes, it's a good combo. I've been thinking the same for my PPs. May I ask: Where did he get the cushions ?

To the best of my knowledge that was a stock Recaro option

I also have to thank Sam for prompting me to start this thread.

Dan added with comedy relief early on, and I enjoyed that banter as much as building the car.

Bob (911 tweaks) really helped focus my direction.

I've missed thanking a bunch of people but without exception all of you posting on this thread helped me keep going.

They are staring to play the music and I am about to get the hook so I'd better cut this short...

I would love to hear a motor sound clip from u-tubbe as you launch her & take her up thru 2nd and 3rd gear which should be to about 80 mph & safe on a open road ... :-)

Thanks Bob

I keep telling people at home that the car isn't finished. What they see is a starting point :-)

It's off getting an alignment and carbs set up right now.

In about 2 weeks I'll be able to make some more noise, and more progress on the interior.
