Bucking issue when in gear.
73 911T 2.4 CIS:
Engine runs perfect in idle, however, when placed in gear, and accelerate, the car hesitates and bucks. I'm assuming that this is caused by a vacuum leak. How do I check for possible leak? or what other issue could it be? Stan |

Sounds like a clutch.

could be clogged filter
I began noticing this on mine but it's still intermittent.
My clutch was replaced last year so I dont'believe it's that.

one way to check for vacuum leak is to spray a little carb cleaner around vacuum hoses; spraying on leak will cause idle to change.

Let's elliminate the clutch:
Find a deserted or very low traffic straight away. Place in 2nd and drag her up to 2K RPMs then punch it. If she pulls all the way to redline, with out hesitation, clutch is A OK. Vacuum Leak, this is a bit harder, especially if the leak is micro in size. Carefully use ether ( Starter Fluid, Spray around the Manifold/TB/all hose connections. Do this a little at a time so to reduce it from going into your air filter and create a false positive. But before this, in a dark garage, open the lid turn the car on and spray mist of water around the plugs/cap to look for errand sparks. You do not want sparks while using starter fluid. ![]() Jim

Thank you everyone for your input. I'm happy to say that I found and resolved my issue. (fuel filter) My fuel filter was hanging in mid air supported by the hoses at each end. When I lifted one end of the fuel filter the engine would stop. I replaced it with a new filter and the car runs beautiful again. I see where the fuel filter was supported to the left side, however, I cannot find the clamp or hardware that supports this filter. Does anyone know what it looks like? or where I might be able to purchase one?

Oh Cool, easy fix.
Check salvage yard for the bracket.

Thank you, Carl. You were right. Now I need to figure out how to support the hanging fuel filter. If anyone has any suggestions, or picture of what it should look like, please chime in.
