Why does it need an engine rebuild? That's low mileage on a 3.0 engine.

Looks to me the oil is leaking out of a cracked cylinder

Everything is the same, even the cams but you couldnt have the 2.7S at 175 and the 3.0 at 180 now could you?

The crank is different on the Carrera 3.0 vs the sc
I think the cam timing is also different. The Carrera 3.0 is a bit more old school tempered, really comes alive at around 3800 rpm. the sc is a bit more linear. Drove mine for about six years stock - loved it. Awesome car. Congrats

The crank is the same as the carrera RS. That is why the carrera 3.o engine popular for historic race engines.

Interesting, color code 264=viper green diamond metallic, a color that I've never seen. Is this the color that is on this car?
Looks great, regardless! I suggest that you leave the engine stock, and just backdate to the SSI style exhaust. The large port 3.0 engines seem to benefit the most from the SSI's. Any large port, no a/c 3.0 liter, whether SC or Carrera 3.0 is a great car. Personally, I think that there is no difference between the Carrera 3.0 motor and the 8.5 C.R. SC motor. That's just my seat of the pants impression, from driving a few. I owned a 79 SC, which was nice. The 83 RoW car, with 9.8 C.R. feels significantly quicker, especially with the SSIs. A cracked cylinder sounds like a Turbo problem, not something that you see everyday on a normally aspirated 911. |

264 is emerald green metallic, special order color in red book
someone gave it a full paint job in the 90's to Black its a total bummer, I am really on the hunt for a good painter to in New England Connecticut , ,this C3 needs needs to be 264 once again Last edited by dporsche74; 09-03-2011 at 05:34 AM.. |

The bottom end, ie crank rods, flywheel of a C3 is the same as that of a 2.7. The block is the later aluminum version rather than the magnesium used in 2.7s, the distributor and ignition are also pure 2.7
The top end ie pistons, heads, valves, cams, injection is the same as was later used on 3.0 SCs, exhaust was also the same as SCs except a pre-muffler instead of a cat the extra hp over the early SCs comes from tuning the ignition & fuel and cam timing SSI's are a nice addition for these engines as is a 98mm higher compression p/c set

I suppose it depends on the p/c set, for the cis, 9.8cr, 98mm p/c sets from Mahle the heads do need a slight chamfer
