factory 911 sc shifter
Hello,
Is the shift knob to shaft connection threaded? if so, what size are the threads? If not, I am assuming it is a clamp type of connection. What size is the shaft? (my oem shift knob is pretty shredded) Thanks Scott

There's a crush sleeve over the shift lever and the factory knob is 'wedged' over the top. You can use an open spanner and hammer to remove it.
You can replace with factory knob and new crush sleeve (our host sells them). If you go after market then many use a grub screw.

Scott,
Do you have any of the manuals for your 911? 101 Projects, Bentley? They are great investments to add to your "tool" collection, especially if you plan to do your own work. Combine those with this board and you can take on any problem that may arise. The 911 shift lever is a bit thinner at the top than most other makes so some of the aftermarket shift knobs will not fit tight unless theyuse a set screw. I have been through several over the years including modifying a Ford Probe knob. ![]() My latest is one that I bought at the local autoparts store. It's simple aluminum with setscrews. I had to bore out the diameter to get it to fit but it has a great feel and looks factory. I painted it black as I didn't care for the bare aluminum look.
