I got these several years ago, look factory and so far no issues.
10-8533-613-M47 OEM-Style Ignition Wire Set, Stainless Steel Braided, 911 (1973-1/2 with CIS, 1974-83), 911 Turbo (1976-89) Brand: Beru [More Info] |
+1 for the Magnecors. I got the KV85 (red) set. the specific product nubmer on the box was 6594 for Porsche 911 1965-83. I have an 82SC. They were the perfect length out of the box and ran the same path as the stock wires. I did have to mess around with the holders a bit to make the wires fit and look organized.

Jeff, is your screen name supposed to be followed by the words "ya onna" or "your honor" (if I'm remembering My Cousin Vinny correctly)?
|
just picked up a set of Black Clewetts from the host, so far they have been great.
|
Ok, so what size drill bit did you guys use?!
Thanks! Rod |

+1 on Clewetts.
I bought some wire holders from Jegs and they are fine too.... Ken |
Magnecore makes a smaller diameter black wire set for those who want to keep an original look but still use Magnecores.
|
Anyone know anything about MSD wires? Does MSD make plug wires...what wires work best with MSD ignition?
thanks |
NOLAsc,
The My Cousin Vinny reference comes up a lot. Many people assume I am a lawyer (not). The real story is that my wife and I met while attending the University of Utah. Their teams are called the Utes, thus 2 Utes. |
Rod, which ever one you pick, pick a drill bit the same thickness as the wire or slightly larger. Drilling the holders is simple they are only plastic and drill out easy. The new larger wires will also look better.
|
If you are on a budget, consider Bosch wires. I've had mine for about 7 years. Fit great and no problems. The only downside is that they are solid core so they don't play well with high energy MSD systems.

Magnecores
Ok, so I finally got the car out from its winter slumber, and got around to putting in the magnecores. Went PRETTY smooth..... Got down to the last wire, and something wasnt the same. Below is a pic, I eneded up leaving the original one from the PO in place, but replaced the rest.... Thanks for everyones help!
The one on the left is what the PO put in, the one on the right is the magnecore. This is the wire that goes to the coil. So, should I just leave it alone? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1332086848.jpg |

I suggest DIY and save one or a couple of hundred (or whatever). Here's one option:
BWD SW1 - Plug Wire | O'Reilly Auto Parts Need EMI and/or RFI suppression? On an early 911, none required. On later engines, the spark plug connectors provide some resistance as well using the appropriate spark plugs. I have had the equivalent wires for a loooong time w/o insulation breakdown or conductor breakage. However, for those who prefer to color-coordinate ....... MHO, Sherwood |
Great tip, but I still need an answer to my question.....
Anyone? Thanks! Rod |
Anyone just rebuilt or fabricated wires using the old connectors? Is there a writeup on this. I searched, but did not fine anything - maybe I am not searching correctly????

Please forgive me but, the only problem I have with Magnecors is that they only come in such bright attention drawing colors that might be more appropriate on a "rice road racer", not a sophisticated German classic. What's wrong with matching black or gray? Now that would really draw attention on such a clean engine! |
Only iif you drive around with the lid open  They come in black for the concours types but true concours will stick to the OEM berus
One thing the magnecor dust shields are POS use the OEM Beru shields they hold up much better. As far as holders, I used an aluminum bolt and thread end cap for only the holder to the right of the fan housing holders |
