2 Quick Questions

I think I have found the source of my wet weather mis-fire ("What happens when it rains" thread). I have a hole in the tinware which goes around the engine right beside one of my spark plugs. Is it possible to replace the LHS portion of this with the engine in or would it be easier to patch the hole until I need to lower the engine?

Secondly, could someone tell me what the oulet on the side if the airbox is? The picture below, courtesy of Leland has a lid but mine doesn't!
