Adding a/c whilst doing an engine upgrade
Hi all,
Im New to these forums and car scene. Have always been into jap cars but thought I'd give a 911 a crack. I've read a fair bit on here and have a few questions. The 1974 911 I'm looking into will need a rebuild / new engine fairly soon. This suits me as I really want to learn about these cars. My question is, I'm thinking about upgrading from a 2.7- 3.3, (attempting a turbo charging in there ![]() No a/c would be hard to take in Australia. Thanks ! |

Au contraire , at least in the less scorching climes of Tassie! Last night son & I pulled our a/c out and the engine bay gave a huge sigh of relief after >30 years
![]() We plan to drive with the windows down and regulate the temperature by going faster or slower. of course , we don't have bumper to bumper traffic or deserts! You'd be looking at quite a bit of work & $$$ (maybe 2-3k) to install a/c that is half decent. No doubt others will chime in from downunder. I would be looking at 911s with the goodies already installed. Have you priced an engine rebuild or new engine yet? plus all the other things that almost always need doing (~5k of bits and bobs whether you like it or not!)

Me, too
I will watch this thread for answers to this question, too. My 78 never had AC and I consider adding an aftermarket system sometimes, but have not been too sure about what the best/favorite recommendations would be. ?

How's that griffith system go? Expensive?
What sorta level of expertise would you be needing to install? Haven't priced up the new engine yet, guessing for the engine I'd be looking at what, 10k? Turbo 3k? That's doing the labour myself. Probably underestimating, Anyone no a good store in Australia for complete engines? |
