California DMV question: registering again after car was on PNO
I *think* this an appropriate post for this forum, but if moderators disagree, feel free to move it to the right place.
I am considering, for various reasons, not registering and not driving my Porsche in the coming year. In California, one has to opt for so-called Planned Non Operation (PNO) and pay a fee when electing this. My question is: how difficult is it to switch back from PNO to "registered" status in California? A smog inspection was due with this year's registration, and I pre-emptively took care of that so I cannot picture getting the car smogged again being a prerequisite for re-registration. The DMV website makes it appear that it is only a procedural matter of paying the registration fee due, without any inspections, but I would like to hear from fellow Pelicans who have done this registered -> PNO -> registered switch. Many thanks in advance. /alex

First , there is no fee to put the car on Non-op, but when you choose to come back on line, you will need the smog cert and proof of insurance. I have had cars in this manor with no other issues other than mentioned above for several years. Good luck

Just got my DMV renewal for my '74 914. Registration fee is $103. PNO fee, if I opted to do that, is $18. As late payments go up per the schedule, so does the PNO fee.
Sorry, Alex, I've never returned a car to driver status from PNO status.

Depending on how long....the DMV purges the files.
Original pink/owner's cert and reg and most fees are waived. You may have to fill in a statement of facts saying the vehicle was under 187 lbs of cow dung and you wanna get it on the road....if you have vintage blue/yellow or black/yellow plates.....bring them with you. Otherwise they will charge a fee to use them as vanity plates.... Personally, I use AAA.....DMV sucks greendonkeydicks....

It is easy - just go to AAA or DMV. 5 minutes once your number is called.
