Diagnostics help/question 88 3.2 starting issue
Drove her for about an hour (88 3.2 911 Carrera), then parked for about an hour and when I went out to start her she would not turn over. Put key in turned and the buzz/whine occured and the light for battery went on, but nothing beyond that. I was able to push start in 1st gear on first try no problems. Then when I got her home I turned her off and then restarted and she fired right up.
I suspect it is the starter--maybe the warm/hot start issue with the starter, but want to confirm before I invest in a new starter. Anyone encounter similar problem? Advice please and if it is the starter is it recommended to get the high torque starter? What are the advantages/disadvantages of a high torque starter? All advice welcome. Many thanks. Rich |

probably almost everybody here has encountered the same problem. The only way I tested for a hot start problem was: I identified that I had an old Bosch starter, and I gently banged on the solenoid which started the car. I replaced with a high torque starter, which is smaller and lighter. No known disadvantages.
Just to save yourself some money, you may want to check for loose and / or dirty connections at the starter, and probably also the ground strap at the tranny.
