turn signal problems
I'm having an a problem with my turn signal/emergency flasher not working. They work, then they don't, then they work again. I have an 84 carrera. I have replaced the flasher unit, the turn signal switch, the headlight switch, and installed a headlight relay to protect all of these switches from an early death. The turn signals seem to work for an application or two and then they don't. I check the emergency flashers and they fail at the same time. I was told that the emergency flasher switch may br the culprit, but it was replaced about 4 years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Intermittent open ground is highly suspect. Gerry

at first, I thought it would be the typical turn signal switch issue, which is very common.
But then you added that you are having a similar issue with the emergency flashers as well, which is a different switch altogether. I agree with Gerry....ground or maybe even a bad relay?

Do you mean the "emergency flasher" that turns the high beams on by pulling the turn signal arm? I had a similar problem on my 79 SC. What happens is that the high beams went on automatically every time the turn signal switch is returned to the center position after completing a turn. The problem has to do with some of the contact springs inside the switch. I took it apart and bent those springs to prevent it from happening. At least it worked for while.

Poor ground connection is a likely culprit. |

I recently had an intermittent turn signal. Turned out the wire was loose in the fuse block. I didn't think those could work loose and didn't look there right away. It's worth checking ...

If both the hazards and the horn stop working then its fuse #2 and maybe its the copper link between fuse #1 and fuse #2 in behind the fuse panel is intermittant. It happened to me.

I too had a recent intermittent problem with my turn signals. After swapping out the relay and the switch (both new now) I found I had a faulty fuse. Darn thing looked fine, but fell apart in my hands when I pulled it to check for corrosion at the fuse panel. I would start at the panel as the previous posters suggested. Look for a corrosion and loose connections, put in a new fuse.
