Aftermarket 3.2 ecu
Read in one of the UK magazines about a shop building new ecus to replace the motronic for the 3.2. Offered data collection and direct tuning, then could be combined with a few other intake goodies.
Anyone else recall seeing these, or tried one? |

"ecus to replace the motronic for the 3.2. Offered data collection"
Actually, the 3.2 DME ECM has the data acquisition electronics but just needs the firmware to do the diagnostics.

Loren, how does someone change the firmware?
Cost?

Similar Thought
Is it possible to download the table from the data acquisition component to a PC for further analysis? Does a map of that component exist to assist in comparing actual values seen by the ECU to expected values?
Could this then be used to write a program for further data analysis and tuning and eliminate the need for hard coded firmware?

"how does someone change the firmware?"
1. Read & disassemble the chip program 2. Modify the program to read & test the sensors and monitor the ignition & injectors and store the actual values with any faults 3. Re-assemble the modified program and program the chip 4. Make a code reader, e.g. 964/993/928 Bosch Hammer, to interface with the 3.2 DME ECM Porsche most likely had a chip during the 3.2 development that could do diagnostics but they didn't include it in the final production 3.2 DME ECM. The test connector to access the ECM is in the engine compartment. Bottom line: Not a simple task, i.e. many man-months of development time!
