Thank you Joe Bob.

No difference in engines in a coupe vs a cab.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

While the engines were the same, according to my mechanic and to my driving instructor, we can tell the engine was from a cab due to a shock absorber on the engine mount.

Correct, there is a vibration damper on the left side of the bracket.

If your 81-82 engine has a cab bracket, it was a mod as the Cab (and the damper fitted bracket) started in 83.

Oh cool. Thanks for that info. Then I bet I have the original engine with a vibration damper added as you suggest. What benefit does reduced vibration in terms of performance?

By the way, JJ 911SC, is that a pic of your engine? Impressive...

Thanks. Yeah, a few $$$$ and 5 months of not riding

Back to the performance, If your car is a coupe having a damper will not do anything. The damper is to limit the effect of the flex of the cab, on the engine.

What year/model is your car?

Mine is a 1982 911 SC. Been through a couple owners but we can trace it back to an owner in New Mexico. 72k mi.

I wonder why a previous owner may have put the damper on?

Well, the engine has travel, before fitted in your car.

The only way you can confirm that it is the original fitted engine, is to get a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche ($110).

If its a Targa, one of the PO might have think he could make it more rigid.

Hey JJ what does this mean? "Well, the engine has travel, before fitted in your car."

Sorry about the typo; I should have said "may have travel". If you get a CoA and the engine does not match it mean it could have been fitted in a cab at one point.

If it match the CoA, now you got to find out where/why it was fitted.

I think it would be worthed to spent that $110. What month was the car produce (on the door VIN sticker).
