Filling cracks on the dashboard
At some point the dash will come out and be properly repaired or replaced, but until then I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way patch cracks in the dash?
Is there a specific epoxy or method that seems to work well (enough) to be considered? Thanks Last edited by tdskip; 10-13-2011 at 06:49 AM.. |

But, at least in this thread, the dash was removed so the work could be done. I suppose it might be do-able in place, but messy and I doubt the results would be as good.

I used the kit you can buy at pepboys or any other large chain.
It works to fill the cracks... It looks better than an open crack, but that is about it. Rich |

I am going to try some GM intake manifold sealant for the short term.
Crazy, I know..... but it dries glossy black. Using a small wet piece of dash vinyl, one can put the texture back by pressing on it when it has dried a bit. It remains flexible as well. Only works on black dashes though. |

I had a small crack that I used black RTV on which says its an adhesive and sealer. So it sticks but remains flexible. Worked well on the small crack.

I used Crazy Glue in a very small hypodermic syringe with a fine needle (used by diabetics).
The Crazy Glue did not stick to the plastic of the syringe. This set-up allowed me to inject glue into the tiniest cracks, therefore "welding" the cracks to prevent further cracking. So far, after two summers, the cracks have not spread.
