Put about 225 miles on it yesterday, a drive through the Oregon Cascade Range with a couple of other local PCA members. Stopped for lunch at Three Creeks Brewing in Sisters. Good roads and scenery, but very hot for these parts, was hovering around 100°F for much of the trip.
The A/C though, after the work I did to it a couple of summers ago, performed great, kept the cabin quite pleasant. Even with the outside heat, lots of uphill grades and the A/C running all day, the oil temp never went above 240°F (115°C). The 'new' sport seats are wonderful, a huge improvement. I'm driving the last leg home, back roads between Sweet Home and Marcola, and I can't help but marvel at what a great car I really have, and my incredible luck in finding this particular example. Between the way it was originally equipped, the way it has been maintained, and the additions and changes I have made to it, it is almost the perfect example for me and the way I want to use it. Now if only it were a different color, maybe Petrol Blue... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1435518651.jpg |

Began part 2 of the return to brown interior, as originally built. Today I began slowly working through the door and rear deck panels.

One thing leads to another. The new door panels look so good, I decided I needed to upgrade my plans some. Didn't want to hack up the new panels, so I bought a new pair of MB Quart 5¼" speakers to fit the original size openings. Also found that the original front speaker grills are still available, so I bought a pair of those and the matching mounting cup/shields. New clips, new door release cables. etc.
Speakers arrived today (2 days early!), so I got started on the passenger door this afternoon. Cleaned off all the old glue from the door shell, and cut a new moisture shield, which I attached with aluminum tape instead of spraying glue all over. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pic, blurry due to lack of light in the garage. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1449371715.jpg Then started carefully cutting the holes for the door locks, speakers, etc. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1449371770.jpg After some careful trimming, I got it on the car. The door pocket is not on yet, should get that one done tomorrow, and then move on to the driver's side. The camera flash makes the color and gloss look much more different than it looks in person. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1449372048.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1449372068.jpg Carpet is a bit reddish-looking, but that's still on the list for the future. |
Finished the door panels today.

It would be good to be able to rename this thread, 5 years later...
Back working on the interior again. This time I'm replacing the original mouse fur carpet with German square weave in brown. A much nicer look, IMO. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1478099961.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1478099983.jpg |
That brown is excellent!

Got the first door pocket covered today. A really fussy job.

Wow, 2 posts here in almost 2 years. What a slacker I am!
Actually, after finishing the interior late last year, there hasn’t been much to report with the 911. The car is very reliable, and suits my needs well. Except my need to tear into cars. I like fixing cars, and the Carrera has not needed anything on that score. So in the spring of ‘16 I decided to branch out a bit. Started looking for a likely project that would need some work, and that I could hopefully at least break even on when I sold it. The first test case was a very cheap, tired looking and non-running ‘84 944. Bad suspension and a blown head gasket were the main problems. I fixed it up, and sold it 5 months later for a very small profit. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...03ff5713cb.jpg Since I didn’t lose money on the first attempt, I boldly started looking something more involved. Took me several months to find the next prospect, a sadly neglected ‘73 914 2.0. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508204026.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508204026.jpg This one needed more work. Paint, fuel system, suspension, interior. But since I retired shortly after the 944 was sold, I have more time to spend on this stuff. I sold the 914 last week, after about 7 months of work. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508204232.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508204232.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508204232.jpg In the mean while, the 911 is still my go-to car. My wife and I drove it to Werks in August, about 1700 mile trip. Ran flawlessly, and the refurbished A/C kept things nice inside even in the 110 degree heat coming back home through Red Bluff and Redding. Looking for my next project now... |
Apparently I forgot to post the car’s cocomats here. I put those in early this year.

Nice to see a Pelican having fun in their retirement. I'm not that far behind you!

Thought I'd close out this thread. I sold this car last week. ( http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1018026-1984-911-carrera-coupe-42-000-a.html )
Replacing it with a '72 911T coupe. A bit of a project, but I can make it nice! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548193534.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548193534.jpg |
Texas tags...where’d you find it? And I loved the Chiffon.
|
In New Mexico.
Most people do love Chiffon, I heard that a lot. It was OK after I took the interior back to all brown. The '72 was originally silver, and will be again, some day. |

Do you have the option code E23 on the underhood sticker? My '84 has this code, and from best I can gather it was a combination of 16" Fuchs, F&R spoilers, limited slip, and sport shocks. I've seen it on other '84 model year cars and yours seems to have all the elements. Mine had sport seats and the corresponding code for those separately.
